DarrianX
I want to forward my ports for Utorrent, but for some reason I just can't get it right. Whenever I use the "check to see if ports are forwarded with Utorrent" option, I always get an error, stating the port isn't open. A lot of things confuse me about port forwarding, and, I'm afraid I've never really been good with computers. I've checked many port forwarding sites, including Portforward.com, but I still can't get it right. I followed the guide for my router, but it didn't work. This is my router: http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/511/port.jpgI set up a static IP by finding my IP Adress, Subnet, Gateway, and DSN, and I unchecked "obtain IP Adress automatically". Image: http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/708/internetr.jpg My internet connection still worked, so I assumed I did it correctly.I then filled out my router page, with the IP Adress and the port used in Utorrent: http://img704.imageshack.us/img704/4097/internet2b.jpgHowever, I got this error message when using the "port checker" in Utorrent: http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/7126/internet3.jpgI also disabled Windows Firewall completely, in case that was causing the problem, but it still didn't work. Can I have assistance forwarding my ports? Thanks in advance.EDIT: I tried using port 6112, the proper Utorrent port instead, but it still doesn't work. Switeck
Got another software firewall that may be blocking?...such as in your antivirus/antispyware programs.
DarrianX
Nope, I don't have any anti virus programs on my computer.
Switeck
What ip does your router see on its WAN side?If it's a LAN ip, there's the reason why you're still firewalled...
DarrianX
I'm not sure entirely what you meant (I'm really not good at computers), but I've just checked my WAN IP on a site (it's 174.113.XXX.XXX), and it's not anything like the static IP (192.168.10.81) that I had used to forward my port. I've tried asking for help elsewhere as well, and someone told me that it could be my internet provider that's causing the problem, and that some block port forwarding. Could this be a possible reason why I'm having so much difficulty forwarding my ports? (I'm using Rogers Lite High-Speed Internet.)
Switeck
The port checker checks your internet (WAN) ip, not your LAN ip. If port forwarding is set up correctly and there's no blocking firewalls...it should work.3rd link in my signature, 4rd paragraph. Yeah, it's *THAT* bad!http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=65971
DarrianX
Well, I always knew that Rogers was a horrible internet provider to have, but, like the others using it, I haven't much of a choice, since there's literally no internet provider competition - it's either Rogers, or another small third party company; they dominate Canada. Canada still has a good population of ~35 million, and 90% of major cities in Canada are located 300km of the American border; I don't see why a few U.S. companies wouldn't take an opportunity like that. Honestly, I'm not surprised that people have so much trouble with it and are frustrated. In fact, they've just reduced my bandwidth from 60GB to 25GB arbitrarily for my plan (and I need to still pay the same amount of money to them for half of what I'm getting). However, I'm still thankful, I have a green light in Utorrent at least, even though the ports aren't really forwarded. At least I have internet at all; all that's really going to happen is that some of my torrents would take a bit longer than usual, but I don't mind too much, I just wanted to see if there was some form of error on my part when I was trying to forward my ports.Anyways, thanks for all of your help, Switeck, I really appreciate it.
