File in use by another Process - When save location is in Library(W7)

I have a peculiar problem.

I have added my download video directory to "Videos" Library [Windows 7 feature] .

Now sometimes my torrent fails even if it can connect to many seed/peer with a message that says : "Failed: File in use by another process" .

Retrying again solves the problem for sometimes and again I had to restart the job after 3-4 hr.

Most probably that file is read by windows library managing process which updates it's internal metadata catalog. During that time file operation may fail on same file.

So what I suggest is by looking into the error code returned by WriteFile() api , we should retry after few millisecond 2-3 times before failing completely. It shouldn't give up on first try for a "Library" attached folder (atleast).

It's a minor change , I think it can be easily implemented.

PS: I could resolve this problem by temporarily detaching the downloaded video folder from library while downloading.

But that shouldn't be the ideal solution.

I strongly suggest using something like Process Explorer to check what -really- is locking the files.

This error is so intermittent that tracking it using process explorer is very tiresome.

Removing that folder from library solves the problem. So only logical conclusion is it's caused by some library management process which opens the file in SHARE_DENY flag.

Even if knowing that it is caused by some XYZ.exe will not resolve the problem , because its part of ur system executable. Stopping will disable some os function.

I also verified it that it's not a problem with my antivirus.

Only way to resolve it is by retrying the write .

Another way will be locking the file by disabling share flag in CreateFile(), but that will hamper the general usability , i.e previewing the file while it is downloading. So not recommended.

Enable option "append !.ut to incomplete files" in µT. Maybe that can fix your issue.
