siwy1992
I'm new to these forums, but I'm an inter-mediate utorrent user. I also know how port forwarding works, and how to set up static IP's. For the past two weeks, for no reason I've been having a port listen error. I've tried changing my ports almost a 100 times, and forwarding each of them to my router. I have a linksys wrt54g v8. I've looked over 50 forums trying to find a solution to my problem, and nothing. I also have a HiJack This log, to show the advanced users what processes I'm running, and what might be filtering this. I also updated my router firmware to v8.00.7 . The option for completely turning off the router firewall is gone. I only have the option to highlight 4 boxes. Here is my log from HiJack This. If someone could help me and needs further information, please post it. I'll respond fast.Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.3 (BETA)Scan saved at 1:35:11 PM, on 2/7/2010Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16981)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\csrss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\LogiShrd\LVMVFM\LVPrcSrv.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\WINDOWS\stsystra.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\LogiShrd\LComMgr\Communications_Helper.exeC:\Program Files\Logitech\QuickCam\Quickcam.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exeC:\Program Files\Spyware Doctor\pctsTray.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\AppleMobileDeviceService.exeC:\Program Files\Bonjour\mDNSResponder.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\LogiShrd\LVCOMSER\LVComSer.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exeC:\Program Files\Skype\Phone\Skype.exeC:\Program Files\Pando Networks\Media Booster\PMB.exeC:\Program Files\DAEMON Tools Lite\DTLite.exeC:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exeC:\Program Files\Q3E Minimizer v1.51\Q3E Minimizer_v1.51.EXEC:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Apps\2.0\RH9CBPYN.7M2\POY9A8JE.OG2\curs..tion_eee711038731a406_0004.0000_1430d97334050788\CurseClient.exeC:\Program Files\Nero\Nero8\Nero BackItUp\NBService.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\nvsvc32.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\PnkBstrA.exeC:\Program Files\Spyware Doctor\pctsAuxs.exeC:\Program Files\Spyware Doctor\pctsSvc.exec:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Shared\sqlwriter.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\wscntfy.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Logishrd\LQCVFX\COCIManager.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\LogiShrd\LVCOMSER\LVComSer.exeC:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\PeerGuardian2\pg2.exeC:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exeC:\Program Files\Xfire\Xfire.exeC:\Program Files\Skype\Toolbars\Shared\SkypeNames.exeC:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jqs.exeC:\Program Files\uTorrent\uTorrent.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\msiexec.exeC:\Program Files\TrendMicro\HiJackThis\HiJackThis.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem\wmiprvse.exeR1 - DreadWingKnight
What ports have you tried so far?Have you tried with Spyware Doctor removed?
siwy1992
Ive tried randomized ports in the ranges 2000-51000. I have tried it with spyware doctor removed. I still continue to have the red circle with ! mark: Listen port error. I've completely removed the windows firewall by removing it from the registry or something to that extent. Here is the guide:http://www.instant-registry-fixes.org/how-to-remove-firewall-included-in-windows-xp/I was wondering if upgrading my router firmware from v 8.00.2 to 8.00.7 had something to do with it. The option to remove the hardware firewall is gone now.
DreadWingKnight
That removal of the firewall most likely breaks windows. And I would also look into removing that media booster.
siwy1992
I reinstalled the windows firewall, and its working properly. I also got rid of the media booster. I've put the default utorrent port 6881 in the utorrent window, forwarded that port in TCP to the windows firewall. I also ran a test to see if my bandwidth is being throttled, and it isn't AT ALL. I ran forwarding tests on portforward.com through the utorrent window. Said the port was closed. I looked at the router window for forwarding apps, the port was forwarded to my internal IP address that I use in this computer. Wth is going on. Any further help would be greatly appreciated. DreadWingKnight
I've put the default utorrent port 6881 in the utorrent windowI would recommend against this.Does the logger tab reveal anything?Have you modified any advanced settings in the past? siwy1992
Sorry, logger tab? Where would that be located. I think I did modify some settings from a guide someone posted. That could be a major problem. However, I tried using other clients like azureus or Vuze and they have the same listen port error. I've used 6881 in the past before, and had download speeds of 500+, upload was always around 70 or so. Like I mentioned before, I've tried using other ports in the ranges posted above, and none of them have worked even after port forwarding. If you can tell me where the logger tab is located or how I can reset utorrent settings to default, I can give you more info.
DreadWingKnight
http://www.utorrent.com/faq/installation#faq7 <-- how to reset uT to default. And if the guide you followed was a youtube guide, you MUST reset to defaults to get further support. siwy1992
Resetting the settings got rid of the listen port error. Speed didn't change in anyway. I'll browse through the other posts about speed and look at it. Seems like I wasted your time with this post, when the answer was in the FAQ... Didn't even bother to take the simplest way out. I appreciate the time taken to respond to this post, thanks.
