USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!I'm in noway involved with Bittorrent Inc. So don't take this suggestion as coming from them.P.S I've recommended to friends and it helped them with different problems. kariput
I was searching the intenet for solutions to this problem today and I came across this in one of the uTorrent Forum threads:"Could everyone with bandwidth problems try setting bt.tcp_rate_control to false and let us know if that helps? If not, you can set it back to true."I made the adjustment and it seems to have made a BIG difference. No significant speed plunges in the past half hour. They had been occurring at 2-3 minute intervals before.I tried to find the post again, but couldn't locate it. I think it was posted by Ultima.By the way, I tried the "Disable bandwidth management" from preferences before doing this and that did not help. rnr
When you disable bandwidth management you should make sure to restart utorrent.
kariput
I don't remember if I restarted or not when I tried disabling bandwidth management. Probably not. Anyway, my downloads have been stable for over an hour now with the bt.tcp change. I did not have to restart uT for it to take effect either. All the significant rate changes I've noted in the past hour were directly due to changes in seed and peer connections.

dhg734
rnr, I ran the program you suggested and only 3 programs came up. none of which I needed so I went ahead and deleted those. thanks for the help.DreadWingKnight, I put that on here myself a while back but no longer have a use for it. It has been removed.kariput, thanks for the input. I believe someone has already mentioned this in the thread. It's already set to false. Thank you.Firon, I don't see anything from Roxio or Sonic Solutions in the program list. Even the pcdecrapfiler that rnr mentioned didn't show anything. However, I did find them in the services list. All of which are disabled.
kariput
Looking back through the thread I see where Switek posted about the bt.tcp changes. I overlooked it yesterday. uT has been stable for me for more than 4 hours now. I guess that was the fix I needed.

RobinRichard
I too had these speed fluctuations with 2.0... I upgraded to µTorrent Beta (2.0.1 build 18284) and everything works fine!! Try the beta!!
rundll
Upgraded to Beta (2.0.1 build 18284), but the problem was not solved. The only solution is to disable uTP. When uTP is enabled, the following happens:1. Peer connects to me as usual (not uTP) connection and starts to download.2. Peer connects to me as uTP connection and starts to download. The old connection is closed.3. The uTP connection is suddenly "freezes" and then uTorrent closes it because of timeout.4. Peer reconnects as usual (not uTP) connection and so on.Logs (some private and useless information was removed):bt.transp_disposition=13:[2010-02-22 15:04:30] 91.192.xxx.xxx:12402 [uTP](Torrent1): dhg734
Hey, rundll. I went in and checked my settings and my bt.transp_disposition is already set to 5. I've also installed the latest beta version. This is driving me nuts. Thanks a ton for the input though. Let's hope we can figure this out. rundll
A very interesting screenshot! Before upload goes down, retransmission upload goes up!Is it because of packet loss? If yes, what is the reason? There is no such problem with TCP connections...
Ultima
Not sure if the change is relevant to your bug, but uh... try the build here:-- 2010-2-22: Version 2.0 (build 18296)- Fix: uTP sampling error (caused speed drops every 60 seconds)
Sagus
Unfortunately, 2.0 still appears to have this problem in build 18296: http://i46.tinypic.com/2cpfihs.jpgTried:- Setting "bt.tcp_rate_control" to "False".- Disabling bandwidth management.- Disabling everything else on the "BitTorrent" tab, except "Allow incoming legacy connections".- Setting "bt.transp_disposition" to "5", "10", "15", "31" and "26".- Setting "bt.ratelimit_tcp_only" to "True".- Setting "net.upnp_tcp_only" to "True".The last version I'm absolutely sure I didn't have this problem with was 1.8.2. Sagus
To Switech:Been testing 1.8.2 (build 15357) since this morning, here's the last graph: http://i45.tinypic.com/2ihmlx1.jpgOutput's been stable the whole time, no drops in sight."bt.transp_disposition" is at its default "0". Switeck
That upload graph is not quite smooth. Looks like it gets near its max and a connection or 2 gets disconnected, making speeds suddenly drop by 10-30%.Seems better than v2.0...but I don't know if you ran with uTP completely disabled for long to match v1.8.2's settings. Sagus
Looks like you're right about no uTP. "bt.transp_disposition = 5" in 2.0 makes for a picture similar to 1.8.2 after a few hours running. Can't say what led me to believe otherwise, I thought I'd tested them all well. I have no excuse.Still, as soon as uTP is turned back on, 2.0 continues to drop connections every minute, and I can't see what would cause that on my end.As for the 1.8.2 graph, it's the sum of 8-10 active seeding jobs. Too many seeds, too few leechers. It smoothes out with enough of the latter (just TCP): http://i47.tinypic.com/23w4acx.jpg
Switeck
uTorrent v2.0's current implementation of uTP (UDP-based) peer/seed traffic is flawed...and your connection setup just seems to bring out the worst of it.So completely disable uTP and even set bt.tcp_rate_control to FALSE.Maybe when v2.0.1 goes final/stable uTP will run much better for you, so retry then."the sum of 8-10 active seeding jobs"Means little by itself without context.I can have 8-10 nearly dead seeding torrents that all combined seldom have over 5 peers.Or I can run just 1-2 seeding torrents that never seem to have less than 100 peers....Or anything in between, such as this:http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/8845/utorrentpyramids.pngThere is only 1 small dip in the entire upload speed graph. The peaks are where I turned the upload limiter off to utilize temporary burst speeds. It is the number of peers present rather than the number of torrents active that ultimately decides how "busy" uTorrent is while seeding. dhg734
Hey guys, sorry it's been a while. Sitting here tonight I've noticed something... It seems to me like the speed drops that I'm experiencing are directly related to the speed at which the torrent was d/ling at. About 2:1 it seems. For example, downloading at 500kpbs the drop would reach as low as 250, 1000kpbs would drop to around 500. Not sure if that's going to help out at all but I figured it's worth passing it along to the pros. Also, I was experiencing this problem with the older versions as well. Not just 2.0. Here is a graph with a lower speed limit (2 Mbit/s connection): http://i50.tinypic.com/2s81hl4.jpgI hope this finally establishes that the connection is not an issue.And... I guess that's it. Will wait for 2.0.1 final and hope for the best.
