Firon
Oh, and if the Norton thing doesn't apply and you use mIRC, make sure it hasn't crashed (happens when closing it sometimes). Check the Task Manager's process list
Ultima
Time to edit that entry in the FAQ, Firon ;]

jofall
Yep that did it i think. I also uninstaled .net framework 1.0 and 2.0 as this was also a listed cause of the problem. i dont use .net anyways. also put my disk right queue size too 12048. and changed my net.max_halfopen to 10. Ultima
Hm...? Can you point us to where it mentions .NET as a cause of the problem? I don't see it anywhere, and that information might be useful if Firon decides to update the FAQ.
1c3d0g
Jofall: you're in luck because just a few days ago I uninstalled .NOT Framework 1.1 and 2.0 myself, and although I haven't encountered your specific error (thank you Jesus), I can confirm that since that PoS has been uninstalled, my disk activity has gone down considerably - for whatever reason that may be. Ultima
That first link seems broken... As for the patch, we know about it ;PEdit: Just noticed that the period was added into the URL... the correct address would be here:FIX: Socket initialization does not succeed if your computer has more than 50 network bound protocolsThanks =]
