bently
using uTorrent 1.8.5 build 17414on winXP pro1. When i did an unban on all the files i was seeding and downloading, there were numerous instances of my own IP:port that had been banned. Is this normal or a problem? How does my own IP get banned? does uTorrent upload/download from itself and did some file on my system cause a hash check failure? I just started looking into this but didn't ever see any failed hash check logged related to my IP or even any entry for the ban being set. Just knew from the unban.2. I was/am having issues with a huge file archive (40GB+). It has been 99.9% complete for over a week. I noticed that only 1 or 2 pieces remain. Problem is that I am getting a repeated hash check failure on this piece. I noticed the ban being set. I removed the ban more than a dozen times and the same seed would connect, send the piece which would fail the hash check and get banned again. There are a few other seeds showing, but i never seem to connect to them. The ban is always the same IP. Given the nature of the archive content (500+ independent files) and the fact that this only effects 2-15% of about ten, it is not logical that this would be an intentional poisoning, as 98% of the content remains usable.Do I understand that 1] it could be my copy of the .torrent file or 2] the seeds files do not match the .torrent hash check? Are there any other possibilities?3] I downloaded the .torrent file again and replaced the one I was using for this archive, then did a force recheck. One thing though. I noticed that that seeds IP had been banned just before I stopped the torrent and I didn't remove the ban. I just switched the .torrent file, did the forced recheck (which reported 99.9% complete, then restarted the download attempt.I haven't been able to connect to ANY of the few seeds since, over the last couple days. So Here I am wondering...is that ban that set before I switched the .torrent file and restarted still set? I did an unban but nothing happens, no ban is removed. Did the ban that I left set disappear when I restarted utorrent and the download of that archive? Is there a file that contains the ban list that i can check about this? This peer does NOT actually have the piece.Probably a media indexer on their system being stupid.
bently
1] i wasn't worried, just curious which is why i asked whether or not it was a problem.2] the seed that kept getting banned reported having 100% of the file. And when that seed connected, I watched the bar chart as the blocks were transferred. It would build until that 4mB piece was completed, then when the hash check failed, all the blocks comprising that piece were dumped. So it seems that he had the piece, but that for some reason it was not matching the hash for it in the torrent.3] The last question also remains unanswered... where is the ban stored and how can i check if it is still blocking that seeder.. not that it matters too much as it looks like he has 1 or 2 corrupted pieces anyway. but i'd like to know a little more about the ban process and if their is a list that can be examined. I haven't found any indicator that a ban even exists, other than the log entries, or blindly doing an unban.
