DarkReaper
I have a revision 5 router and I have the problem where I can't go on any HTTP sites, even after I close Utorrent. All the firmwires I found though are not meant for v5. I have the latest official firmwire and it doesn't fix my problems.
Firon
1) you're using the 1.00.6 firmware?2) Did you run this patch and patch to 100? http://www.lvllord.de/?lang=en&url=downloads3) Get a better ISP, Rogers sucks (and they throttle BT and do other nasty things)
DarkReaper
??How did you know I use Rogers? BTW, they didn't throttle my area. Before getting the router, I managed to get lightning fast speeds on utorrent. Now, I get decent speeds, but my HTTP suffers.Edit: Changed the connection limit to 100 and my firmware is 1.00.6. Time to wait.
Firon
Admins can see every user's IP And well, an easy way to verify that is connect directly to the modem and see if it behaves the same. If you get faster speeds, it's the router; if you get the same speeds, Rogers might've started throttling.
1c3d0g
Because Firon is the Administrator, he can see everything. Rogers probably started throttling BitTorrent traffic in your area, which could explain your sudden slow-down.
DarkReaper
They have never throttled my area yet. You can trust me on that one. Everything seems to be working so far. Will report when it dies.
Firon
Just try connecting directly to the modem (as in, take out the router) and see if that fixes it. If it does, return the router and get a WRT54GLBut before you do that, run the patch I mentioned, patch to 100 and reboot.
DarkReaper
I already patched it. I think I found the problem. My old settings in Utorrent aren't good. I had maximum connections total at 3000 and each torrent at 200.I set it to 2000 and 100 and I think it works now.
DarkReaper
Nope, didn't work.Sadly, I've decided to switch to Azureus. My brother on the other end of the router says it works perfectly. It's sad to lose such an excellent client. I hope this issue will be resolved though. Firon
Go back to µTorrent and try turning off DHT
DarkReaper
Ok, fine. Although, for some reason, Azureus worked with DHT and didn't chug my web browsing. Plus, I like DHT in some cases.
Firon
I know, but try turning it off and see if that has anything to do with it. The two DHT systems are radically different, so they behave very differently.
DarkReaper
Please note that all these problems occured after I got my router. I need the router though.Edit: Everything looks fine now. Browsing speed is obviously slower but at least it loads up eventually. Will keep testing. BTW, is there a way to keep DHT without losing the ability to browse? I just love Utorrent.
DarkReaper
Ok, it screwed up again. I think I narrowed it down. Kerio Personal Firewall. I read the FAQ and followed the instructions. For some reason, after I close Utorrent, KPF will still say that Utorrent is still transferring data and there's about a hundred connections, after Utorrent is closed. How do I fix this? Firon
Have you tried uninstalling KPF? (disabling never works)
DarkReaper
Is that the only way? I love KPF and it's the best firewall I ever used.
Firon
Well, it's just a suggestion. If it fixes nothing, then there may be something else to it. :/ You can always re-install it afterwards
DarkReaper
No good. What is going on?Edit: Hmm. I think I sort of fixed it. I lowered the connection total to 500 and made each torrent 50 and I reverted back to the version before the beta and I capped the speeds at 50 kb/s download. For some reason, if it goes over 100 kb/s, all hell breaks loose and I have a 6 Mbit connection.
kewldude607
Honestly, if you have a router then you don't need a software firewall.
Ultima
And what do you base your claim on?
1c3d0g
Usually routers have built-in hardware firewalls, and his PoV is that you should be aware of what you're running so you don't enumerate badness.
Ultima
"Usually" is the keyword. Sure, people should be aware, but not everyone is tech savvy enough to notice when something they don't want is connecting to the internet. The firewall's alerts are a good aid. kewldude607
I have a WRT54G v.5 and I can get downloads upto 1000kB/s with it over BT, so I think maybe you have a defective router..Have you tried connecting directly to the cable modem? I know people have suggested it but..have you?
DarkReaper
Is it possible to connect directly to the modem and to the router at the same time? I tried that and for some reason, I couldn't connect at all.
Firon
You have to connect to the modem only, then reboot the modem.
