Slow downloads in certain places?

Hi there, I'm new to torrent downloading and I'm looking for a bit of advice.

Whilst at uni connected via ethernet i get speeds of 200+ kb/s however when i come home and connect wirelessly (my ISP is Sky) i get downloads speeds that average 1 kb/s does anyone know what i could do to increase this? bear in mind I'm very new to this and i could be making a rookie mistake somewhere!
