encapsulated install

Due to disk space problems I did an encapsulated install (as listed in the FAQ) in an external hard drive.

For some reason it does not work as expected because when I open a .torrent, uT decides to store temporary files

in the internal HD. Is there any way to avoid this behaviour?

I am also trying to do this. it does not work as I expected, either, but you can make it store the temp files anywhere you want by using the options menu on the utorrent page, then selecting preferences and directories, just as you do when you set up the normal instance of utorrent. You can then select any directory you want as temp storage place.

'Preferences > Directories' then define a directory on your external HD to store the .torrent files.
