s0mebody
I'm trying to post a reply to my thread, but the forum system doesn't allow me to do so:It says:InfoDouble posts are not allowed. Please edit your postWhy is that? I was on http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?pid=461584 and clicked on "Post Reply" when this happened. moogly
Double posting isn't allowed (misuse), just edit your last post to add something and bump the thread to the top.
s0meb0dy
What is "double posting"?I'm trying to add a reply. Is the normal use in this forum, that thread openers are supposed to edit threads all the time? That's *VERY* unusual (although I've got to admit, that I did not read the board rules, that's why I probably missed that that rule).
moogly
Just edit your last post, that's all.
s0meb0dy
So I take it, that the normal way of using the forum is, that thread openers are to not send replies?Really?I know no other forum, where this is the case. Do the forum rules at least point out this non-normal behaviour?
moogly
Double posting is not allowed to avoid abusive bumping. So edit your last post and readers will see it.
s0meb0dy
Again: What do you (and the forum) mean with double posting?Sending a reply (in a thread) is NOT double posting! And as can be seen in this thread, non-thread-openers (like my new s0meb0dy account and also you) CAN send replies. It doesn't make any sense what-so-ever to allow non-thread-openers to do so and forbid thread openers to send replies. Why is the forum setup in such an extremely non-standard way? NoOneButMe
Double posting: Posting when you were the last person to make a post in the thread. Replying to yourself is useless. Just edit your post.
s0meb0dy
Thanks. And no, your wrong again: Replying to oneself is NOT useless. The opposite is true - it clearly shows when something was posted. Sure, when a post is edited, it's shown when the LAST edit was done. But if more than one edit is done, the information about when edits were done is lost. With new replies, this is not the case. But anyway, this issue has been resolved now. Good.
