FuzzyL0gic Posted March 7, 2010 Report Posted March 7, 2010 I've noticed that if I run FileMon I can see uTorrent.exe doing the same open close query of resume.dat habitually every 10 seconds:10:21:25 uTorrent.exe:2984 OPEN C:\Docs & settings\user\Application Data\uTorrent\resume.dat SUCCESS Options: Open Access: 00110080 10:21:25 uTorrent.exe:2984 OPEN C:\Docs & settings\User\Application Data\uTorrent\resume.dat SUCCESS Options: Open Access: 00100080 10:21:25 uTorrent.exe:2984 QUERY INFORMATION C:\Docs & settings\User\Application Data\uTorrent\resume.dat SUCCESS FileInternalInformation 10:21:25 uTorrent.exe:2984 CLOSE C:\Docs & settings\User\Application Data\uTorrent\resume.dat SUCCESS 10:21:25 uTorrent.exe:2984 QUERY INFORMATION C:\Docs & settings\User\Application Data\uTorrent\resume.dat SUCCESS FileAttributeTagInformation 10:21:25 uTorrent.exe:2984 QUERY INFORMATION C:\Docs & settings\User\Application Data\uTorrent\resume.dat SUCCESS FileNameInformation 10:21:25 uTorrent.exe:2984 QUERY INFORMATION C:\Docs & settings\User\Application Data\uTorrent\resume.dat SUCCESS FileStandardInformation 10:21:25 uTorrent.exe:2984 QUERY INFORMATION C:\Docs & settings\User\Application Data\uTorrent\resume.dat SUCCESS Attributes: A 10:21:25 uTorrent.exe:2984 OPEN C:\Docs & settings\User\Application Data\uTorrent\resume.dat.old SUCCESS Options: Open Access: 00100002 10:21:25 uTorrent.exe:2984 OPEN C:\Docs & settings\User\Application Data\uTorrent\resume.dat.old SUCCESS Options: Open Access: 00100080 10:21:25 uTorrent.exe:2984 QUERY INFORMATION C:\Docs & settings\User\Application Data\uTorrent\resume.dat.old SUCCESS FileInternalInformation 10:21:25 uTorrent.exe:2984 CLOSE C:\Docs & settings\User\Application Data\uTorrent\resume.dat.old SUCCESS 10:21:25 uTorrent.exe:2984 SET INFORMATION C:\Docs & settings\User\Application Data\uTorrent\resume.dat SUCCESS FileRenameInformation 10:21:25 uTorrent.exe:2984 CLOSE C:\Docs & settings\User\Application Data\uTorrent\resume.dat.old SUCCESS 10:21:25 uTorrent.exe:2984 OPEN C:\Docs & settings\User\Application Data\uTorrent\resume.dat.new SUCCESS Options: Open Access: 00110080 10:21:25 uTorrent.exe:2984 OPEN C:\Docs & settings\User\Application Data\uTorrent\resume.dat.new SUCCESS Options: Open Access: 00100080 10:21:25 uTorrent.exe:2984 QUERY INFORMATION C:\Docs & settings\User\Application Data\uTorrent\resume.dat.new SUCCESS FileInternalInformation 10:21:25 uTorrent.exe:2984 CLOSE C:\Docs & settings\User\Application Data\uTorrent\resume.dat.new SUCCESS 10:21:25 uTorrent.exe:2984 QUERY INFORMATION C:\Docs & settings\User\Application Data\uTorrent\resume.dat.new SUCCESS FileAttributeTagInformation 10:21:25 uTorrent.exe:2984 QUERY INFORMATION C:\Docs & settings\User\Application Data\uTorrent\resume.dat.new SUCCESS FileNameInformation 10:21:25 uTorrent.exe:2984 QUERY INFORMATION C:\Docs & settings\User\Application Data\uTorrent\resume.dat.new SUCCESS FileStandardInformation 10:21:25 uTorrent.exe:2984 QUERY INFORMATION C:\Docs & settings\User\Application Data\uTorrent\resume.dat.new SUCCESS Attributes: A 10:21:25 uTorrent.exe:2984 OPEN C:\Docs & settings\User\Application Data\uTorrent\resume.dat SUCCESS Options: Open Access: 00100002 10:21:25 uTorrent.exe:2984 OPEN C:\Docs & settings\User\Application Data\uTorrent\resume.dat NOT FOUND Options: Open Access: 00100080 10:21:25 uTorrent.exe:2984 SET INFORMATION C:\Docs & settings\User\Application Data\uTorrent\resume.dat.new SUCCESS FileRenameInformation 10:21:25 uTorrent.exe:2984 CLOSE C:\Docs & settings\User\Application Data\uTorrent\resume.dat SUCCESS This is causing the CPU usage spikes that I mentioned about in a recent thread here: http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=70196.I would really be grateful if someone could explain why uT is doing this and how can I stop these spikes? GTHK Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 What are your drive controllers current transfer modes? Have you created new rules for NOD32 according to the firewall and slow browsing threads on these forums? You
FuzzyL0gic Posted March 9, 2010 Author Report Posted March 9, 2010 Thanks so much GTHK for helping me out with this, it's much appreciated man!My drive controllers current transfer modes are:-*Primary IDE= Ultra DMA Mode 2 (it has always been that)*SATA Link controller, Channel 0= Ultra DMA Mode 6 (it has always been that)*SATA Link controller, Channel 1= Ultra DMA Mode 6 (it has always been that)*SMART readings state all HDDs are 100% healthy with good temps. My NOD32 IMON is turned off but there is still an exclusion rule for Outpost firewall AND uTorrent (neither rule has removed the cpu spikes).Regarding slow browsing, no I haven't experienced any problems with browsing. Firefox is not affected in any way.
Ultima Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 Hrm. How large is your resume.dat? How many torrents you have loaded?
