HFerr Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 Hi! I'm on a somewhat large LAN and I've noticed that after local peers are discovered and downloads/uploads are made between us, the downloads/uploads from/to WAN speeds drops to residual. Only a restart of the client restores those speeds.I've noticed this with v2.0 build 18488, upgraded to v2.0.1 build 18408 and behaves the same way. I'm not sure if the first v2.0 build suffer the same problem but v1.8.5 was OK.
Firon Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 Turn on net.limit_excludeslocal if you have a lot of local peers.
HFerr Posted March 12, 2010 Author Report Posted March 12, 2010 I found the problem with just one more local peer. Someone too lazy or too dumb to copy the CentOS distribution from the file server. His client found mine with the torrent and downloaded almost all the iso from me.After that my downloads and uploads went from 2MB/100KB (we have a 100/10 mb FO connection) to something like 20KB/5KB. The only way to go back was to restart the client. After some tests I could replicate the problem. Went to another computer and downloaded the same torrent. The same thing happened.
heidelberg23 Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 HFerr, option "net.calc_overhead" is true or false?I've had a similar problem. Has solved this problem, switched "net.calc_overhead" at false.
HFerr Posted March 15, 2010 Author Report Posted March 15, 2010 net.calc_overhead was at the default true. Changed to false. Same thing happened.Total Bandwidth Used by 6 Torrents - Down: 10 KB/s - Up: 6 B/sDo I need to go back to 1.8.5?
heidelberg23 Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 I was mistaken. This absolutely other bug, independent from overhead traffic (that bug caused just temporary drops of speed, at connection of local peers and just at included "net.calc_overhead" and with included limiter of speed for upload/download).Today I have seen this bug, about which has informed HFerr. After an exchange with a local peer, all active torrents is fail, and don't start to go again. But connection with networks (local and Internet) has been active and working without problem. If the situation repeats, I will lay out screenshots.uTorrent - 2.0 (18620)Sorry for my English, but I think you understand
HFerr Posted March 23, 2010 Author Report Posted March 23, 2010 Although this can be easily replicated, no one cares about it.I've tried many of the suggestions on the 2 first posts of Switeck signature and this behavior happened all the times.Went back to 1.8.5 and changed bt.transp_disposition to 15...
Switeck Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 HFerr said "After that my downloads and uploads went from 2MB/100KB (we have a 100/10 mb FO connection) to something like 20KB/5KB."Strange, your posts seem to originate from a DSL service...and changes ips some.Is the fiber service the same ISP/area as this poster's?:http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=71748As for high LAN speeds killing uTorrent's speeds elsewhere afterwards, I have seen that and it's at least partially a bug in uTorrent (especially v2.0 and later). One of the fixes uTorrent devs are currently working on may resolve that.Example pics:http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/5804/utorrentv201landlkillsi.pnghttp://img16.imageshack.us/img16/404/utorrentlocaldlkillsuls.pngSomeone else had a clearer picture of internet-only download/upload problems:http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/9626/utorrentdlkillsulspeed.png
heidelberg23 Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 This is first bug, depending from "net.calc_overhead" and limiter of speed:http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/5039/volna201.pngAs soon as there will be a second bug, at once will lay out it.
HFerr Posted March 24, 2010 Author Report Posted March 24, 2010 Switeck, I use my personal DSL connection to non-work related stuff. The ISP of the work connection is the same as mine. That guy problem is throttling for sure. His ISP started to throttle hard about two weeks ago. His connection is not even FTTH, the last mile is DOCSIS 3.0. His ISP only does FTTH with 1Gb connections and that service is only available on very few areas atm.I'm glad to hear that developers are working on this problem. Thanks for answering.
Switeck Posted April 12, 2010 Report Posted April 12, 2010 The opposite side of the problem -- lowering the upload or download speed limiter is killing download+upload speeds, not just the one limited:http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=73348
