Translation updates + credits

Firon

Recommended Posts

I've disabled many old, inactive accounts from uTS. Anything that hasn't been used in a year was disabled.

This was so I could make a reasonably accurate list of translators. This has been a long time coming, but there's finally a credits page for all you translators that work hard on translating uTorrent. :) The page is linked to on the download page.

http://www.utorrent.com/index/translators

If you have any suggestions to spruce up the page, let me know.

@Golygydd: Yes.

F.e. in my german translation it reads as

©2012 BitTorrent Inc. - Alle Rechte vorbehalten.

Danke für die Nutzung dieses GRATIS-Programms. Hoffentlich gefällt es dir.

Solltest du Geld dafür bezahlt haben, hol dir das Geld zurück!

Danke an: ludde, Serge Paquet, zygron und Firon.

In the non-English versions of ABOUT_TEXT and ABOUT_TEXT_PLUS, would it be acceptable to add recognition for the translators, such as below?

Thanks to ludde, Serge Paquet, zygron, and Firon for all the help and to UserX (and UserY) for translating.

in Lithuanian and Russian there is credits to translators too:)

translators word is always last, eg. if in English „word“ translation to other language is "translated_word" so it's up to translator to decide what word to use "translated_word" or "word_which_is_better_in_that_language_even_if_it_not_similar_by_meaning_to_English_word"

I agree on this. Translators should be given credit in theit own language file.

But as it is by now, the translation guide says that the translators nick shall not be added. They will be credited in the translators page at utorrent.com

I can't see why the translator shouldn't be credited in their own language file..

It becomes unwieldy to add users to that, since it changes over time and the list can become large (since translators drop out and new ones come in).

It's probably better if we add a link to the credits page. The benefit of that is that it also has links to your forum profile, so users can possibly email you (if you have that allowed in your profile anyway).

Well, when the old translator becomes a new one, then the new translator replaces the translators nick with his/her own..

Could be as simple as that...

But you're the bosses.. :P

It's always difficult to say who has done the (most) work for a translation. If the last/new one just has to add one textline and is changing the about text, this would not be fair.

Additional mentioning would be better.

(Btw, I do this since Feb. 2006 for german :P)

and no one sees any problems:)

BTW, anywhere in utorrent site there is no former translators... only current. eg. in Lithuanian translation, translator "Jonas" translated whole utorrent, but he is not mentioned anywhere... it's not right, so personally I collected all former translators and added to "about" and imho it's right and it should be so.

Well, you've got a point there. It wouldn't be fair not to mention the former translators. But normally it wouldn't be many, I guess..

When I started to translate to Norwegian Bokmål, I "borrowed" the Nynorsk language file, and rewrote it all in notepad (then Firon made it fit the system). This was before I knew about the translation system (I think).

Maybe the nynorsk translator should be credited too? He made it a lot easier for me.. :)

Yeah, I don't want a dialog that big. :P

And hmm. It's supposed to show the former translators.

I'll take a look at that.
