utorrent causing internet connection to crash

Hi

I recently upgraded utorrent to 2.0 and ever since doing this my internet connection is crashing.

prior to the upgrade it worked fine.

Whats happening is that after around 5 minutes browsing with utorrent running I cannot access the internet, I have windows 7 and I troubleshoot the problems. It comes back with a major fault that cant be fixed, yet other computers on this home network still have the internet and the only way to fix it is to reboot the pc.

I believe it's utorrent as the internet works fine without utorrent running

If I leave utorrent on overnight by itself it will work fine but if I start browsing it will play up.

Somewhere there is a problem with browsing (firefox) and torrent running at the same time.

I've been using utorrent for years, I havn't changed any of the settings except for running the utorrent speed test and applying it's recommendations

any ideas

cheers

Same issue here, but I'm running Vista 64-bit. It takes about 5 minutes from the moment I start Firefox for the speed to become crappy. Using Google Chrome browser doesn't cause any problem, though.

Could it be a port mapping setting?

i have a similar problem!

while downloading it takes about 10-30 seconds to crash the connection.

i am running win7 64b with uT 2.0. it was all ok for months but now, while i am DL if i open [i use opera] the browser it will quickly crash. it gives me X or ! on the connection and i cannot repair it from win7 i must manually restart the router.

i tried 2 routers and 2 types of providers, fiber and adsl. i also sticked the fiber directly into my ethernet and same issue [no routing]

i tried on a few laptops of friends at my connection and they worked just fine.

also tried fresh install of win7 with just uT and a browser [also does with firefox and chrome] and even utorrent 1.5 and 1.7.7 and still the same issue.

also tried all the hints in the sticky regarding nr of connectios and others but to no avail.

please help i am going out of options

There is a bug with the nforce driver v15.51 (latest whql)

To solve the problem uninstall the driver completely and reboot.

Windows will install the default driver which works better and doesn't have this bug.

If you really want a more recent driver then install the 15.53 beta driver -> google it.

Uninstall the v15.51 driver and reboot before installing this driver!

This applies to all win 7 users

  • 2 months later...

Where are you getting 15.51 they only have nforce 15.49..... even beta doesn't show 15.51 go back to 15.49. Also I have 7x64 with 2.0.2 and don't have the crashes your having maybe it more related to your O/S being corrupted or bad drivers....

It seems like this new update is causing MANY problems. I having the same issue. When I start utorrent, within 5 min I lose internet. It is a router issue (that much I know). I have not changed any settings. In an older machine I am using version 1.8.5 with no problems.

Had this problem back on my laptop, took much longer however more like 20-30 hours for it to happen. torrents would continue to work but i would lose all http access for all programs, trackers included. Makes sense that it would be related to nvidia drivers, my laptop has an nvidia card and chipset. where as my desktop is ati. if i ever come across this again i'll try updating the nvidia drivers again.

Possibly a conflict with upnp and nforce?

HI guys,

I am having the exact same problem as the first poster so instead of creating a new post I thought i would hijack this one. My internet on the PC utorrent is running crashes, router is still connected to the net, other PCs on network still connected to net. I initially was convinced it was updating to utorrent 2.0 that was the problem, but installed deluge and the same problem happened.

Around the time my problem started I also updated my graphics card drivers, i needed to to get a plugin for After Effects to work. My problem is... after an undefined period of having utorrent running eventually my access to the internet on that computer alone gets blocked. if i pull out the ethernet cable from that computer and plug in back in all goes back to normal.

It is frustrating because i cannot seed overnight and my ratios are suffering. I have tried to go back to older versions of nvidia drivers, older versions of utorrent, but no luck . My last resort is a fresh install of win 7 64 but i am loathed to do it, as i have read people have done it and it hasn't helped. I run 1.8.4 on my laptop no problems. Is there anything anyone can suggest?. because i am at my wits end. i can usually solve any issues with my PC but this has me stumped.

i have also recently added a router to my network, for my 360. is there a chance that this maybe the issue.

my PC details

MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Intel Core i7 CPU 920 @2.67GHz, 6.0GB RAM, Nvidia Geforce 8800GTX

currently testing utorrent 1.8.4 and nvidia drivers 190.62_desktop_win7_winvista_64bit_english_whql

I would also like to know how to completely remove all trace of utorrent. I uninstall a version, run ccleaner on the registry and install a different version of utorrent only to have it already running all my torrents and remembering all my settings. I want a fresh start with utorrent. Anyone know how to purge it from my system. I can also provide the logs if after doing so some help might be attained from giving the information.

thanks guys...

hey. that's really helpful, thanks for that. yes i know this. I have worked with 2.0.2. i am using a process of elimination. I am using 1.8.4 now to see if it is actually 2.0.2 that is causing the problems. so far with my current set up 1.8.4 and the nvidia drivers i am now using i have had 24 hours of uninterrupted network connection. so thanks for the help and reading my post properly.

well its finally working after along time. I'm not sure what the problem is, I'm an just trying to work it out, i think it is the nvidia drivers, i had 1.8.4 on my laptop so i used it on my dektop PC to see whether it would work. it has so far. i don't see how you can saw it isn't troubleshooting. i am not trying to make enemies here. I respect all the work you do to help people. I have had big problems since either upgrading to utorrent 2.0 or upgrading my nvidia drivers. i have used utorrent for a long time without any dramas. i respect that 1.8.4 isn't supported. i was merely hoping for some suggestions as to things i could try to fix my problem. Maybe i wasn't clear, but i was using utorrent 2.0.2 on my desktop and have been systematically downgrading versions of utorrent and my nvidia drivers and am now at 1.8.4 and everything is working stably *touch wood*, which it hasn't for a long time. I also used switek's conservative settings guide, which could have also helped. Personally I just want a client that works so i can seed overnight. if that is 1.8.4 or 2.0.2 it is no drama to me. it is better than having a client that crashes your interent everytime you turn it on. thanks for all the guides and the help and such. if i don't sound grateful i don't mean to be. I am. thanks guys.

No i haven't been installing that, unless it installs itself when you update your video drivers. Like i said I needed to update my nvidia drivers to get a plug-in to work in After Effects, this is when i started to get the random network drop outs, only when utorrent is on. I can't for sure say for sure, this is the cause, as it was also around the time i updated to utorrent 2.0. this has been months of prolonged problems. lets just hope it stays stable now. thanks guys

I have the same problem, except that mine lasts for days. As soon as I start dling, firefox will state the following message "Server not found, firefox can't find the server at gateway.2wire.net." My connection status will state that I have access to my network but no internet access and it shows a little yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in the middle. I am still able to dl, but I don't have any other access. If I uninstall utorrent and wait for a day or two, then I am able to access the internet again. I've tried restarting and other things, but it does not work. Could anyone help me with this problem? Sorry to hijack as well :)

yes i had the dreaded yellow triangle. i am still crossing my fingers that my new configuration continues running as it has. i can only offer the steps i took to solve the problem, as stated above. it sounds familiar to my problem. i had the yellow triangle, no internet access no utorrent activity tho. I guess you could isolate anything new you have installed and see if that is causing a conflict. otherwise unfortunately i was completely stumped as to what was causing my problem. rolling back my nvidia drivers seems to have solved the issue.
