Mac utorrent drops internet connection

Hi, I've seen similar posts on this forum but all the solutions were for windows machines. I'm running utorrent on a macbook and utorrent for macs doesn't have all the options then the windows version.

Whenever I open utorrent, the whole network will lose it's internet connection including computers connected via ethernet.

My router is a Netgear WGT624 v2 running the latest firmware.

the mac utorrent version is 0.9

What can I do to get rid of this problem!!!!!
