Utorrent causes my PC to completely freeze.

OS HDD: WD 1tb caviar black.

Ram: 5 gb gskill, 1 gb hyperx. (2x2gb, 2x1gb)

GPU: Nvidea 9800gt by asus

CPU: Intell E8400 3.0ghz Core 2 duo

ISP: Comcast

Router: D-Link DI-604

AV/AS: AVG (scan found no malware)

net.max_halfopen: unmodified.

Connection stats: ~13mb/s Download. ~3mb/s upload.

OS: Windows 7 x64

So when I run the application and try to download a torrent, about 2-4 minutes later, everything will freeze and my only solution is to restart. This doesn't seem to happen when I'm not downloading anything and had never happend until I had upgraded to 2.0.

I've tried reinstalling, changing settings to defaults, following the FAQS and Setup and Troubleshooting guides yet the problem persists. My connection settings are from the conservative guide by Switeck.

Your are on Win 7 and many users have reported computer freezes when uT is running (maybe HD issues or drivers due to Win 7 is a new OS).

Did you try to decrease the bandwidth settings to see if the issue is relative to a traffic level?

So you used the 1, 1.5, or 2 mbit/sec upload settings?

(ComCast doesn't have a 3 mbit/sec upload profile!)

Seems odd about Win7, because it runs fine on my Win7 laptop...

The only issue I can think of is for my Mobo, because ASUS hasn't written any win7x64 drivers for my mobo, so I'd been using Vistax64, which is janky I know, but hadn't caused any problems before the upgrade to 2.0.

I had used the 2.5mb/s profile sir switeck based on the setup guiding and my results from DSL reports.

I just tried the 2mb/s profile. No luck. Continuing on down the profile settings.

the 1.5mb/s profile seems to be working, but I'm not sure how long it will continue.

the above profile worked for a while, then froze up again.

I'll bump it down one more and see how that works.

Here's a thought: try uninstalling AVG? It's the only thing I could think of that would cause the OS to freeze, aside from network drivers.

The freezing had been happening before I installed AVG.

+1 on Win7 Freeze. I didn't use uTorrent and Win7 never hung like this. After I started using uTorrent, I ran into this type of hang. Then uninstalled for awhile, hangs went away. Re-installed a few days ago and have had 2 hangs since. It's usually not a full crash but my task bar won't raise off the bottom (from auto-hide) and CTL-ALT-DEL won't bring up anything. The HD light shows no activity. I can't get a crash dump, and I can move my cursor, but hard power down is the only remedy.

I'm using MS Security Essentials, no third-party AV. All other functionality in uTorrent seems to work. Downloading, sharing, etc.

Me thinks there is some interaction with uTorrent and Windows that causes this but I have no clue how to debug it...

I have Win 7 64 bit also and never had a problem with freezing with the old utorrent, just the new version (it was slow before, but at least it always worked before).

Now I can't d/l more than a few mins without it locking up.. very aggravating.

UPDATE: i just put the older version of utorrent back in and so far so good! not a freeze yet! so maybe us Win 7 will have to stick with the 1.8.5 version until it gets looked into..

I'm still getting freezes with 1.85, but not as frequent.

Have you checked your Power Options to see if it is set to power down your idle HDD's (this is the default setting). utorrent itself doesn't turn your drives back on by itself properly so this can lead to freezes. Doing this fixed my problem when I installed utorrent onto Windows 7.

The problem is with the P5B-e's stock network card driver for Windows 7--it hard locks the computer whenever it uploads data. Follow the instructions at http://www.sevenforums.com/network-sharing/5787-problems-atheros-l1-ethernet-adapter-win7-x64-3.html to get the very latest driver.
