Firon Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 We still need a few more complete system dumps. We cannot fix this bug without your help. http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?pid=472978#p472978
Reith Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 I'm going to generate a dump soon. I just have to wait a little bit since uTorrent doesn't seem to hang after closing unless it's been running for a few hours.
Firon Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 Gotcha. Let me know once you have it! Turning on uTP and DHT can help (as more UDP sockets trigger the bug faster).By the way Yarodin, if you don't mind uninstalling ESET, would you mind making another dump? It actually would be useful.
Oral-B Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 I've been having the same bug and I'd be happy to help with a dump too. Is there a way to upload it directly to you guys?
Reith Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 I finally got uTorrent to hang and I tried holding down the right Ctrl and pushing Scroll Lock twice, but nothing is happening. I imported the file you posted into my registry and changed the page file size... did I forget something?
Firon Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 Did you reboot after importing the .reg? Make sure it was the first one, not the second .reg. Furthermore, it has to be the rightmost Ctrl key, not the one on the left side of the keyboard.Oral-B, I'll get you the FTP details shortly so you can upload it to us.
Oral-B Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 Firon,I successfully got uTorrent to hang but, like Reith, couldn't generate a dump with Ctrl-Scroll-Scroll even though I made all the changes in your post.A quick search and I found http://support.microsoft.com/kb/244139 which seems to indicate that the regedit hack you indicated will only work with PS/2 keyboards. With a USB keyboard, you need to add the CrashOnCtrlScroll key to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\kbdhid\Parameters instead.I will try that and let you know it that works (but it might take a few more hours to get uTorrent to hang...).
Lorum Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 Just registered to say that I was having this issue myself recently in Win 7. I seem to have fixed it by going back through my utorrent "completed" section and removing any entries which had red marks next to them due to the files no longer being present or moved. No idea if this fix will work for everyone, but it sorted out my problem completely.
Firon Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 Well, that's totally not obnoxious. I've modified the .reg file to include the USB keyboard support. Thanks for the heads up.
Oral-B Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 Firon, may I suggest you add "AlwaysKeepMemoryDump"=dword:00000001 to the .reg file as well?Without that setting, if there are less than 25GB of disk space left and the computer is not part of a domain, the dump is erased after the first reboot.
Reith Posted April 21, 2010 Report Posted April 21, 2010 I finally got the dump, I'll e-mail you the links soon.Edit: I compressed it and it happened to be just under 1 GB so it shouldn't take long.2nd Edit: It just finished uploading on transferbigfiles.com. I had it automatically e-mail you a link, so check and see if you got it.
Firon Posted April 21, 2010 Report Posted April 21, 2010 I got it Reith and Oral-B, thanks! I also got the new dump from you, yarodin. We're investigating the dumps now; we'll let you know how it goes.
Reith Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 Any updates on this? Are you guys still analyzing the dumps?
Firon Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 Yeah, we're talking to Microsoft right now about it. It might be some time before they get back to us with a response, though we might have some ideas as to what can trigger it.We believe it only happens with UPnP, so as a hack, you might be able to disable UPnP (and NAT-PMP) in the client to avoid the problem.
Reith Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 I'm not sure that will make a difference, as I've always had UPnP and NAT-PMP disabled.
Sharn Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 Hi Firon. I've been having this issue since day one on a new installation of Win7. Using the latest build of 2.01. It happens really often to me, (it's only not-happened a couple times) I'd be glad to get you a dump to help fix the issue if you need any more. For the record I'm running Avira free, but I can temporarily uninstall that if I need to.Thanks, and let me know,-Sharn
Firon Posted April 28, 2010 Report Posted April 28, 2010 We don't need any more dumps at the moment, but thanks for offering. I'll let you guys know when we have a response. Thanks to everyone who submitted a dump!
Firon Posted April 28, 2010 Report Posted April 28, 2010 Can anyone with this problem try this build? http://download.utorrent.com/2.0.1/utorrent.closehang.exeThis build disables the use of IPv6 and UPnP in uTorrent. If you still get the hang with this build, please create another system dump.If you do NOT get the hang with this build, let us know. Either way, it will provide more insight into the bug in Windows.
Zulithe Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 I can confirm that the problem persists on my system with both "Enable UPnP mapping" and "Enable NAT-PMP port mapping" are disabled (unchecked), I got a new hang just now and those settings have been off for the last few reboots (lots of driver updates recently ). I'm using 2.0.1 build 19248 on Windows 7 64bit.I have not tried the build in post #70, after reporting the above, should I still test it?
yarodin Posted April 29, 2010 Report Posted April 29, 2010 Zulithe, try http://download.utorrent.com/2.0.1/utorrent.closehang.exe build 19290
zag2 Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 Been lurking all this time checking this thread, was suffering from the same problem. Thanks 19290 fixed my problem Great work, what fixed it?
Firon Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 We disabled IPv6 completely, as well as UPnP and NAT-PMP. It's just a hack, though... please, do keep running it and see if you can trigger a hang with this build. If none of you can, then it's very likely that the bug lies in Windows 7's IPv6 support.
zag2 Posted April 30, 2010 Report Posted April 30, 2010 I've opened and closed many times, there is now a noticeable speed up in the app closing and its fixed as far as I'm concerned. It did need me to disable the mentioned options for it to download anything.
