If you have Nero, I don't see why you shouldn't use it. What 1c3d0g meant when he said to burn it as an image is that you burn the ISO contents onto disc, not the ISO itself onto a data disc.

Edit: I've never used it, but there's a program called ImgBurn... try it if you want, in case you get any more confused ;P

ok i used imgburn and ubuntu live worked fine :) the internet was messed up thou

now im gonna install ubuntu on my g3 ibook and put it to some use

so what will i do?

i was thinking this: download mac installer on this comp, then use imgburn to burn the iso to a blank disk and put it in my ibook, hold "c" while booting, and it should boot into the installer for ubuntu.

is all that right?

  • 3 weeks later...

Knoppix is the king of the live cds.

there are so many versions of Linux about but I prefer Debian based with a KDE front end e.g. Kubuntu (the KDE version of Ubuntu)

Will be looking at some other distros soon though just to see what they are like.

Good resources I have found are

Check those out

Elive (www.elivecd.org) - eyecandy to the max, very impresive

PSLinuxOS (www.pclinuxos.com) - easy for the n00bs, propreatery codecs out of the box, debian based = easy sofware instalation

Kororaa (kororaa.org) - XGL!!! This is the ultimate eyecandy stuff, 3D powered desktop, LiveCD with ATi and nVidia drivers included, makes even Vista look sooo medieval....

(K)Ubuntu (www.ubuntu.com) - great support on the forums, the most popular distro out there at the moment (I'm using this currently), although i'd suggest waiting about 2 months for the next release. It promises to be VERY stable amd amture.
