twisterdave
Ok, so I did the static IP thing, went through the whole instruction page on that, on portforwarding.com, went really well, opened uTorrent again, ran the setup guide again. Ran the bandwidth/network test using my closest location (Chicago), and it still comes back saying the port is not open but I can still download.HUH???I'm thinking it should be open, and running wide open? What did I do wrong?Any advice for a newbie on this? Many thanks, gracias, dankeschens, and so on and so forth, much appreciated!!
ovonrein
I used this the other day to positively check: http://www.canyouseeme.org/Just to double-check:Your uTorrent m/c has static IP (outside DHCP address pool but within subnet)?Your uTorrent client port is fixed in Options/Preferences/Connection (ie not randomized)?Your router's (what make?) firewall is disabled (to start with)? And you have some entry somewhere that says "[myPort] in for TCP&UDP map on to [myStaticIP]:[myPort]"?Then you should be good to go. You might find anyway that your router is compatible with the UPnP handshake from uTorrent when you enable Options/Preferences/Connection/UPnP. HimandHer
I was having the same problem, portchecker said it was OPEN but utorrent said it was not, so I tried also checking the upnp that you mention above and wala, that opened it thanx
twisterdave
Ok, thanks, you're talking a little above my head on this, "used this the other day to positively check: http://www.canyouseeme.org/\" Ok, it says the connection was refused. Ok, but why?Just to double-check:"Your uTorrent m/c has static IP (outside DHCP address pool but within subnet)?" Lost me here, but I used 8.8.4.4 Don't know if that should work, I thought it would, I could very well be totally wrong."Your uTorrent client port is fixed in Options/Preferences/Connection (ie not randomized)?" Check. It's not."Your router's (what make?) firewall is disabled (to start with)?" It's a Belkin F5D7230-4, I believe it is disabled, but hwo can I check?"And you have some entry somewhere that says "[myPort] in for TCP&UDP map on to [myStaticIP]:[myPort]"?" Again, lost me here, totally."Then you should be good to go. You might find anyway that your router is compatible with the UPnP handshake from uTorrent when you enable Options/Preferences/Connection/UPnP." And once again.... lost (please don't be surprised, LOL)Again, thanks for your help! Sorry I'm just kind of ignorant on the more techno stuff here. ovonrein
Alright - you are a network virgin.First of all, chances are your Belkin router will support UPnP and you will not have to worry about half of what you wrote about. So let's try this: (1) In uTorrent, go to Options/Preference/Connection:- Enable UPnP- Enable NAT-PMP- Disable Randomize...- Enable Add ... exceptionTake a note of the port to the left of Random portApply and OK.(2) Go back to http://www.canyouseeme.org/ and try the port you noted above. Is it working already?Assuming that it didn't work, then(3) Go into your Belkin router by punching into your web browser an address like 192.168.2.1 - this is Belkin's factory default (from memory) but it's your network so you must know best. On the left pane, there will be an entry for:-- Firewall: Click on it. Disable. Apply the setting.- System Settings: Click on it. Enable UPnP. Apply the setting.Retry (2). It should really work now. If not, report back.
