changing settings for download format

I have a question about settings in uTorrent for downloading format. I am not asking for help with the downloaded content, just about the format of that content.

I have a desktop running XP with SP3 and my downloads from uTorrent come out in h264, avi, etc. that I can playback on Windows Media Classic.

I recently received a laptop with Vista (since upgraded to Windows 7). On the laptop, files downloaded from uTorrent only come out as a VLC file and cannot be played on Windows Media Classic.

I try downloading the same files on the desktop and they come out as they are supposed to i.e. h264, avi,

I have tried looking in the help files and the settings to change the downloaded files on the laptop so that they come out as h264 and not as a VLC file but I have been unable to find out how to change the settings for the downloads.

Am I missing something here?
