kewldude606 Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 So? What do you want anyone here to do?And I've found OptOnline's capping policy to be very good...never been capped with a steady 100kB/s upload day and night...
rcnitrous7 Posted February 24, 2006 Author Report Posted February 24, 2006 sry im just venting because this is very frustrating for me
winMX_67 Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 Yeah, well every ISP has there bad side. Right now there is something very wrong with mine when im downloading something my connection just stops, so I have to hit stop then resume for it to start again. I have to do this like 4 times to complete the download. It been really slow lately I heep having to hot "go" to acually get to a webpage. Im upgrading my internet from 1.5M top speed to 3.0M top speed, hopefully this helps.
Ultima Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 Your problem sounds more like a router issue... mine was the same as well, until I realized that my connection table was saturated, so I disabled DHT, and voilà, internet connection all good to go, with 300+ connections to spare out of 512 (on a network with about 6 computers, 3 of which use BitTorrent).
StoicJester Posted February 24, 2006 Report Posted February 24, 2006 kewldude606 - i was like you too. eventually they'll bother you as well. i was uploading for about two years like that before they bothered me, so it takes them a while. now i have to be careful because they're probably watching me.
winMX_67 Posted February 25, 2006 Report Posted February 25, 2006 I never had DHT on. My subscription expired and I signed up again. Its supposed to take effect on the 27th so maybe its not fully funtional till then?
splintax Posted February 25, 2006 Report Posted February 25, 2006 Ultima: Good idea, I've never thought of switching off DHT. Lately, my router has been crapping out on me.. maybe this will sort out the problem.
nightshifted Posted February 25, 2006 Report Posted February 25, 2006 On the discussion forum of a tracker where I'm a moderator, we just had a post from an Azureus user talking about the resources freed up by disabling DHT in the client. Of course, with Azureus you need that far worse than with µTorrent!Even so, I've been telling our users, no need to disable DHT in µTorrent, keep it on for torrents where it's allowed and where it helps, µTorrent won't use it for our torrents anyway (because of the private=1 infodict key). But if there are resource consumption issues and the person isn't on any torrents where DHT helps, turning it off in the client is a good idea.
Firon Posted February 25, 2006 Report Posted February 25, 2006 I only suggest turning it off if a) you have a REALLY slow connection (and you're not using DHT). like, 96kbit and lower or your modem/router chokes on it
rcnitrous7 Posted February 25, 2006 Author Report Posted February 25, 2006 hey firon why cant i post any more topics
rcnitrous7 Posted February 25, 2006 Author Report Posted February 25, 2006 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Ultima Posted February 25, 2006 Report Posted February 25, 2006 I warned you MORE than enough times about thread spamming, but you never heeded the warnings. I guess you got what you deserved ;P
Firon Posted February 25, 2006 Report Posted February 25, 2006 He actually got banned for posting random insults he googled for in a russian thread. That was the last straw.I deleted his stupid avatar too.
1c3d0g Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 0wned. :/ Don't mess with Firon, or you'll get burned.
StoicJester Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 i wondered about that when i saw he'd posted in there.
winMX_67 Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 Hold on lol. If I have DHT enabled will it auto disable DHT because im on a private tracker?
StoicJester Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 if a private flag is included in the torrent, then µTorrent will honor it and won't use DHT
Firon Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 The difference is that it won't use it for that particular torrent. DHT itself (as in, your connection to the DHT network and any related activity) is still running.
nightshifted Posted February 26, 2006 Report Posted February 26, 2006 And yet, there are some members-only trackers that require passkeyed announce URLs but do not use the private flag; go figure. All they need is a couple peers on each torrent passing the metafile around to non-members and so much for being members-only, especially with peer exchange going on as well.
