davidtube
Until a few days ago I could download at up to 200Kb/s but somethings happened and now my total combined download speed is always 15Kb/s, and I've tried quite a few different torrents. It's as if the global DL rate has been set to 15 but it's on 0. I don't remember changing any settings. Any ideas?
Firon
NTL may be throttling torrents. Have you tried turning on Protocol Encryption? Also, do your HTTP downloads go at 15 KB/s too?
davidtube
Sorry, how do I do that? My HTTP downloads are going as well as every.
Firon
Use beta 428 and turn it on in Network.
davidtube
Strange, since I installed that one, the new limit has become 30kB/s. Enabling Protocol Encryption hasn't changed it.
1c3d0g
So does the OOo torrent download @ only 30 kB/s too? :|
davidtube
Yeah, and as it speeds up, my other download falls and the total stays at 30.
davidtube
I've just noticed that it said download limited at the bottom of the screen so i could only get 10 times what I was upping (even though I've a got 2:1 share ratio). Thanks for your help.

rhettius
I have the EXACT samt problem. i just posted in the "praise" forum abotu how much i love utorrent. then i realised that my downloads were going slow. so much for the praise 15 kB/s slow to be exact.i have 1536/256 MB adsl so max speeds are ~150/~25. obviously somethign was wringi had "global maximum upload" set to 5 kB/s and max download to 120.I changed upload to 15 and in no time my download shot up to 120!!I changed it back to 5, and it pulled back to 15!Then i tried 6 kB/s upload - download is maxed at >120 atm and going strong. So i conclude that utorrent must have built in download speed limiting that varies with upload. Why there was such a huge difference between 5 and 6 astounds me...i hope this helps. Firon
Why do you have it capped so low? With 256kbit upload you can use about 20 or so as your cap.
Switeck
i have 1536/256 MB adsl so max speeds are ~150/~25.You probably meant you have a 1536/256 kilobit/sec ADSL connection. MB suggests MegaBYTE/sec -- immensely faster! The 5 KB/sec upload cutoff for download limiting is just to prevent someone from setting upload too low and sabotaging torrents. If everyone set their upload low, everyone's download would be equally slow...or slower! (Uploads often DO fail and have to be resent or are repeated as multiple ips send the same parts.) Prnkstr
I got the opposite problem.....My uploadspeed is always like twice my downloadspeed....worst ive seen so far was a day when I had a total of like 3kps in and 19kps out.....that bummed me out...Ive got 756/XX line so its not supahdupah, but should be capable of more than a lousy 10kps which is my average total when I do 5 torrents at once... Firon
Prnkstr: run a speed test, find your max upload, then do 75% of that (in KiB/s)
davidtube
Why do you have it capped so low? With 256kbit upload you can use about 20 or so as your cap.I keep a low limit on mine because on my network, if the total upload reachs 15kB/s over the entire network, downloads slow to a crawl. I make up for it when I go to my parents' house and leave it on with a much higher upload rate. The sites I use monitor my share ratio so and most of the time I upload twice as much as download the capping seems a bit unfair to me, but I understand why it's done. Firon
Well, besides using an upload of 6 KiB/s, you could always get a router that has QoS, so then your uploading wouldn't affect the network.
davidtube
Thanks but it's probably cheaper just put my limit up to 7. Really i'd like to change my ISP but if NTL let all the people that wanted to leave them, leave, they'd have no customers left.
Yantrio
i would just like to say 7 seems to be the best upload on ntli am on ntl if i put upload below 7 i go from 230 d/l to about 70 and the sma eif its higherim only 15 so my parents wnt let me swtich from ntl to another isp.dont bother ringing up ntl they will take ages on the phone to answer and its so stupid its not worth itif problems do not stop then surf the net for the answer
