ilovecookies Posted April 9, 2010 Report Posted April 9, 2010 I understand that download is based upon upload speed. Well currently, I have a 13mb/s download and 2.0mb/s upload rate. I've done the setup guide, but i'd like to configure my bandwidth/queueing to meet my internet speed. I figure at these speeds, I should download atleast at a 1mb/s. Also, I understnad that I must have a download with good seeds. (which I do.), so to anyone who can help me out i'd be very greatful. e_e I also know there are guides on this website to help with this sort of thing, but I don't understand them. If you need any additional info just as.RoadRunner Turbo (currently 13mb/s DL, soon to be 20mb/s. Currently 2.0mb/s upload, don't know what it will be once I upgrade.)ep43-ud3l mobo with a 1gb/s ethernet portI use port 45682 Windows XP Service Pack 38 gigs of ram, but not running x64 so I only get 3.25 or so gigs recognized. Also, I took a test to see whether my ISP throttles bittorrent downloads, and the test returned that they don't so I don't think it's that. And I don't run through a router, so I don't think I need to forward the port.

ilovecookies Posted April 9, 2010 Author Report Posted April 9, 2010 I don't believe the info is corrupt, on a decently seeded torrent I get about 800, but I believe I could get atleast a meg. Here's some SS's of current settings, they correspond with what I interpreted from your chart.
Switeck Posted April 9, 2010 Report Posted April 9, 2010 Way wrong on upload/download speed max!uTorrent uses KiloBYTES/second on the Preferences, Bandwidth window."I have a 13mb/s download and 2.0mb/s upload rate."Your linespeed is measured in megabits/second.You shouldn't have connections per torrent set so high. More than 60-100 (100 if there's ONLY lots of slow seeds, 60 if there's mostly lots of slow peers) is counterproductive.
ilovecookies Posted April 10, 2010 Author Report Posted April 10, 2010 So a good solution would be...? I don't really get networking so well. I understand how most of the hardware works, but i've never attempted to learn about p2p or networking.
Switeck Posted April 10, 2010 Report Posted April 10, 2010 A mostly good solution would be 2 mbit/sec upload settings from 2nd link in my signature, though the upload speed limit may be a bit low or high depending on just how close to the limit your ISP gives you and how clean+reliable that upload speed max remains.Did you change any advanced settings in uTorrent?
ilovecookies Posted April 10, 2010 Author Report Posted April 10, 2010 I have not done so, atleast I don't think so. Should I change some of them? would you like an SS?
Switeck Posted April 10, 2010 Report Posted April 10, 2010 Any advanced setting that has an * next to it...is not set to default value. It's usually best to leave them alone.
Shadon05 Posted April 10, 2010 Report Posted April 10, 2010 Hi, I have 10MB/s speed from Virgin. But I don't get enough speed at times. I couldn't open my port as you've mentioned in the forum of speed problems. And I don't clearly understand the upload and download settings, which you've mentioned for recommended settings for default speed. Can you take a pic and post it so that I can change it accordingly.Cheers..
Switeck Posted April 10, 2010 Report Posted April 10, 2010 You don't have 10 mbit/sec upload for one...find out what you really have.
ilovecookies Posted April 11, 2010 Author Report Posted April 11, 2010 Figured the mods at the forum would get a kick out of this. Tech showed up 20 minutes ago about my internet speed problem, not stated in my last post I am getting 13mb/s connection speed, but I have the 20mb package. They came out to my house to tell me this. At 8 in the morning mind you.He went to one website, (the very same one their techs sent me to so I could check my net speed. He checked it, determined it was the modem, and called for a new one, which I now have to wait till wenesday for, but he also said this.)"Once the modem gets installed, you'll either get the full 20mb/s or it will remain the same, I noticed a torrent loader, and torrent downloaders are notorious for modifying registry settings to throttle connection speed."Ruined my morning to wake up and hear such blasphemy.
DreadWingKnight Posted April 11, 2010 Report Posted April 11, 2010 noticed a torrent loader, and torrent downloaders are notorious for modifying registry settings to throttle connection speed. The biggest blasphemy of the whole thing. The only torrent client that WOULD do this would be bitcomet.
Switeck Posted April 12, 2010 Report Posted April 12, 2010 You just got a downgrade on speed. My estimates now place your max sustained upload speed (even after the modem replacement) at below THREE megabit/sec.
ilovecookies Posted April 12, 2010 Author Report Posted April 12, 2010 Well currently all speed tests i've ran are pointing at 13mb/s download, 2.0 upload, and the tech told me even with the new modem It won't speed up my upload. It will basically be 20mb/s dl, and 2mb/s upload. Just curious as per your reason for saying that Switeck. As stated, i'm not too familiar with networking, nor do I have much experience dealing with ISP's. Just recently have I had the urge to try and up my internet connection.
ilovecookies Posted April 14, 2010 Author Report Posted April 14, 2010 Just wanted to get a quick oppinion, I got my webstarr modem, and my line is now finally getting the full 20mb/s dl, and 1.9mb upload, so i'm gonna calll it 2.0 so I can follow your chart. This is what I got.I believe my download speed to be off, because although I have a 20000 kb/s connection, I doubt it makes a difference to utorrent, since it goes on upload. Any corrections/suggestions would be most appreciated.
Switeck Posted April 14, 2010 Report Posted April 14, 2010 "although I have a 20000 kb/s connection"That's ~20000 kilobits/second download...but in uTorrent you told it to download as fast as 20000 KILOBYTES/second!Probably best to set the download speed limit in uTorrent to 0 (instead of 20000).
