A good upload speed with spare bandwidth?

Hi

Excuse me if this has been explained somewhere else.

I have download speed of 4mbs and upload of 700. This translates, in utorrent, or emule, in the usual 420 maximum download speed and 60-70kbps upload speed.

I've been using utorrent for ages, and to make it compatible with computer multiplayer online, I always had to reduce upload to 3kbps. Download speed too, to say, 200, but that's not my worry.

My problem is I recently started using a private tracker and need to seed for ratios, while I have enough bandwidtch for games.

I reduce the upload to 20kbps, as i did on emule way back when, which in theory would allow 50kbps extra, but it still acts exactly as if i were downloading 60kbps, and makes it impossible.

Are there any solutions?

OK, thanks to your link, I've tried adjusting the number of torrents etc

However, I can't seem to find the limit of number of upload slots. I found all the rest, including download slots. I'm on utorrent 2.0

And the table says it's good for generic users, not for private trackers. My other problem is i'm interested only in improving my ratio, downloading will always be easy. So I'll ask here and there whether there's a table for private tracker.

And i'll ask here and there , too, about the worry i express in this thread, why this fudging up of my connection happens. For instance, one more characteristic, my problem isn't always there. Sometimes i restart utorrent and though no changes may have ocurred to upload or download amounts, i can play online.

I'm on vista, firewall avast, windows defender off, used to have norton

port is opened, i've tried all sorts of combinations of uploads and downloads and slot numbers etc.. Color of network status is green, net.maxhalfopen is at 100.

Speed guide says it's at 700kbps.

I don't know what TCPIP.sys is.

INFORMATION WE MIGHT NEED IF NOTHING ELSE HELPS

* EVERYTHING you've tried so far, including ANYTHING listed above (please be as explicit and specific as you can). Tell us what your changed settings are.

* The state/value of all of the options you were recommended to change up above.

* Color of the network status light in µTorrent's status bar (at the bottom of the µTorrent main window)

* What the port checker from the Speed Guide writes

* What the Speed Guide shows your settings to be (press Ctrl+G in µTorrent)

* What you have net.max_halfopen set to (Preferences > Advanced in µTorrent), and if you ever modified TCPIP.sys, what you patched the limit to

* Operating system installed (Windows XP, 2000, ME, 98, 95, NT? Something else?)

* Security software installed (firewall, antivirus, antispyware, antiadware)

* Exact router model(s), and exact modem model

* ISP (Internet Service Provider) being used

* Connection type (DSL, cable, dial-up), and the results obtained from the speed test (when running the Speed Guide), for both download AND upload. Be sure that you aren't using your connection for any other reason besides testing, while testing. That means no downloading, no IMing, no µTorrent running, no browser activity (other than the testing), etc. Additionally, no other computer on your network (if any) should be using the connection. When you select a testing mirror, use the ones that are geographically closest to you.

2nd link of my signature, very top of my post...there's explanation and picture links.

...I hope that helps. :(

The problem with private trackers/private torrents is they vary so much in conditions that I'll need to know more before I can tell you what even *MIGHT* work ok.

Private trackers with overseeded torrents that seldom have peers are certainly different than ones with torrents that often only have 1 or 2 seeds per peer.

Hi, yes, I used the table in the second link to adjust my preferences. Hopefully that'll work somehow.

The private tracker is karagarga, it has overseeded torrents in the name of featured torrents, one everyone goes to to improve their ratios. On these seeding is, relatively low for me, but i gather it's due to the competition. On the others very much lower but cuz of low demand.

I guess my big problem is how to get a good upload speed limit that'll also work with Battlefield 1942 and other online games. Now, for instance, utorrent and the game are both working fine but other times i return to the pc, utorrent has delayed the ping of the game enormously. And the uploads and downloads at these times are similar, it's as if rebooting utorrent were necessary.

Other times the reasons are more normal, for instance it's uploading at 30kbps instead of 10, but even then, I remember with emule limiting to that amount still wouldn't affect game ping.

Generally i have to have unusually low upload on utorrent for it to work, and i was wondering if there was any way around that

but yeah, thanks for the links
