torrents don't merge into magnets

I load a magnet uri, loads of seeds appear, 2 days later I still don't have the torrent.

So I find the .torrent file on the web, I load it into µTorrent then it asks if I want to load trackers from it.

After deleting the magnet uri manually and loading the torrent it appeared to be made with DHT not allowed, local peer not allowed and peer exchange not allowed.

It would be better to load the trackers from the magnet into the torrent rather than loading trackers from a torrent file so that we can wait for a 2nd party to send the actual torrent file to the client. :o

Magnet URIs don't send the whole torrent -- they only send the info dictionary for any number of good reasons (the most obvious one being that we don't need, want, or care for users to come here and complain to us when they discover that their passkeys are being distributed through magnet URIs).

In general, magnet URIs are not supposed to be used with private trackers in the first place. Magnet URIs rely on having a way to get the info dictionary from other peers, and URIs don't automatically contain any such information -- meaning that some automatic peer discovery service (like DHT) would be the only way to get the metadata, but obviously, private trackers don't want clients to use any automatic peer discovery service other than the private tracker itself. Conflict of interests.

tl;dr: Don't expect magnet URIs to play nicely with private torrents.

I don't use private trackers but I see what you mean.

I quite often try to download poorly seeded content. If a magnet doesn't resolve with the peers or seeds in a few days I want to add the torrent file.

Why the interface would refuse to let me replace the magnet with the torrent is beyond me? DHT should continue to work just fine with the torrent? Unless I didn't understand your post the magnet offers nothing superior? For me at least the torrent makes for the more robust protocol to obtain a file.

What would you prefer, just a magnet without tracker or filename (the way utorrent makes them) OR would you prefer having a .torrent file? Then why cant I add the torrent after the magnet is loaded?

Because of frequent crashes I quite often have the content on disk already. I save the magnet uri list and I add it to µtorrent afterwards. If someone decides to send me the dictionary it will check and seed the content.

All I really know is that I want to load the torrents so that I can seed the files in stead of having to manually delete the uri's 1 by 1. I know it isn't a big feature or a big bug, I think µtorrent already behaves very nice in rare situations. Some settings like "always load trackers" or "replace magnet with torrent" would make the UI a tiny bit more user friendly. I'm not in a hurry at all :P

thanks for your reply :)
