download vs. upload amounts

Hi,

I noticed that µTorrent is uploading much more than it is downloading for me. Specifically, it's uploading about two and a half times as much as it is downloading. I was under the impression that the exchanges in the bittorent protocol were all supposed to be tit for tat until the download finished and the client started seeding. If it is indeed the case that µTorrent is giving away pieces of the torrent without requiring reciprocation, does anyone know whether it is possible to alter this behavior such that it prefers tit for tat exchanges?

Tit-for-Tat is not 1-for-1.

You may simply be uploading faster than most peers, so they *CAN'T* return the favor as quickly.

You may also be shortchanging yourself by using too few or many upload slots and/or overloading your upload max by trying to upload too fast for your connection.
