new version + continuous crash + unable to send crash dump

Hi,

i'm a long time utorrent user running windows xp. utorrent has worked like a dream up until about a week ago when the latest version was released. now utorrent opens, sits, DHT: waiting to login , and then crashes. when i try to send the crash dump i receive an http error message, "unable to send crash report to server: HttpSendRequest failed

the speed tests tell me everything is still ported properly, my virtual ports are fine and open for both tcp & udp

i run zone alarm and avg. turning both off doesn't seem to make a difference. i suppose an uninstall could be the next step. i deleted the rules for utorrent in zone alarm and re-established them, no dice. but again, everything seems to be ported properly as i can run the speed tests just fine.

i cleaned my system with avg and spybot; spybot found a few things but after cleaning utorrent is still crashing after sitting at 'DHT: waiting to login' for some amount of time

any thoughts?

*edit* i uninstalled zone alarm, no change. utorrent still gets hung up on 'DHT: waitng to login' , then crashes

Try uninstalling ZA altogether. I highly doubt AVG is the problem.

ok, zonealarm is uninstalled, restarted, installed comodo instead of ZA, set up rules as defined by ULTIMA here: http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?pid=292343#p292343

still getting DHT: waiting to login

no utorrent crash yet, but no connections either

ran speed tests, ports forwarded properly (with comodo installed)

for help with DHT waiting to login; i successfully downloaded open office via utorrent. but none of my old torrent seeds seem to be uploading or even connecting. could this be a tracker side problem? i mean, i use a private tracker for most things and seed about 150 - 200 torrents. could something have changed in 2.0.1 that is causing a conflict with the tracker i usually use?

*edit* crashed when i tried to 'exit' utorrent

*edit* so now DHT is working, getting node connections again, but none of my old torrents seem to be uploading any more. and i'm still getting crashes pretty regularly

in fact, utorrent crashes without crashing now, it just disappears, wtf?

oh good, still getting regular crashes too.

*edit* i've noticed that utorrent seems to load fine, torrents all go green, things say they are going to start downloading, then abruptly after a few moments all the torrents turn red and utorrent either crashes or gets hung up not doing anything then disappears some time later, wtf?

Can you add Hijackthis and Process Explorer logs when µT is running please.

In ¨PE, select utorrent.exe and enable DLL mode (ctrl+D).

OMG it's working it's working

woot!

so ASK toolbar turned out to be the culprit . it was loaded in internet explorer [which i never use, but have to have to update windows] . the toolbar was in the form of the zone alarm spy blocker tool bar, which was still loaded despite having deleted the rest of zone alarm from my system [ i switched to comodo] .

once the ZA / ASK toolbar was removed utorrent popped into action instantly.... it was beautiful
