Seeds/Peers number

I apologize in advance, but I've looked and I really can't find the answer. After all this time I'm just going to politely ask and hope someone takes pity on me and answers.

Under seeds (or peers) it says 3 (5) ... what does that mean? Are there 3 or 5? Or perhaps something in between?

There are five. Three are connected and two are not connected.

The 2 that are not connected could be from the other 3 when they had a different ip or port...or seeds that haven't been seen for days but for whatever reason the tracker or other peers/seeds still hand out their ips.
