Switeck
Did you configure your modem, which may also contain a router and/or firewall?
juliaspike
yes, i did the port forwarding thing. nothing changed.i've also tried multiple ports and they all show up closed.it downloads at max often, say... 70% of the time.
WLS
What port did you configure uT to use?
juliaspike
just picked a random one... 45682. that was another question. is there a certain range of ports i should stick with? any one in particular?
Switeck
Antivirus programs almost always have software firewalls as well.
juliaspike
all i use is malwarebytes, and that wasn't on the list of interfering scanners.
Switeck
Check its setting anyway, at this point it shouldn't hurt.
juliaspike
i looked through the menus, i don't see any mention of a firewall. what about windows defender??
Switeck
Yeah, windows defender is a possible firewall as well.
juliaspike
i also looked through defender. found a spot where a list of allowed programs could go but no way to add anything to it.
Switeck
Check Process Explorer's utorrent.exe DLL list...what NON-Microsoft DLLs are listed there? That's a good way to spot 3rd party firewalls.
juliaspike
i am sorry to say i have no idea what you're talking about... lol. i'll try and figure it out while i await a response.

juliaspike
i skimmed it, thanks for your help... i ask questions outright, because sometimes i can't find what i need on a web page.there are no non-M dlls
Switeck
I guess you don't have a "hidden" 3rd party firewall.
juliaspike
that's great!!! lol. the downloads work, so that is the most important part. it's just not officially open... lame port.
Switeck
Any port you choose is likely the same way. Something *IS* blocking incoming connections from reaching uTorrent. Whether that's on your computer, router, modem, or even your ISP doing it further up the line I still don't know for absolute sure.I may have ruled out 3rd party firewalls, but Microsoft's firewall and even M$ Defender/antivirus could be to blame. juliaspike
so i finally got the port open. then, tested again an hour later, and it was closed again. lol! shut off windows defender, and redid the port through the router. whatevs.the main problem is utorrent and my web browsing can't coexist. sometimes it just kicks off the internet... or slows it down so no web pages open on the first try. Switeck
uTorrent will only cause web browsing slowness on very slow lines OR if you are using uTorrent settings that don't match your connection's capabilities...or unfortunately if you have bad networking (poor router, buggy software firewall).1st (slow speed section) and 2nd links in my signature. Also try rafi's uTorrent v2.0.X Migration Guide here: http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=74820
Goudy
JuliaSpike have you resolved this issue?? Mine seems to be doing the same. When I use Port Checker it says the port is open only when I have exited from UtorrentIf I have Utorrent still open or running it comes up with this message. " Could not test port 18427 because some other application has that port locked. Please close any applications that may be using this port and try again"Any help would be great i'm not too great at this stuff and have been spending so much time researching and getting no where.
