Stormy Fairweather Posted May 31, 2010 Report Posted May 31, 2010 I have been dealing with this for awhile, and I really just want to find a solution.Basicly what happens is my transfer rates will be at a solid 600k down or so, then it plummets to almost zero (anywhere from 0.1 to 10k), or even right to 0. After awhile it may start up again, but often I need to reset my computer, my router or even just utorrent. When this happen firefox acts as though it cannot access the internet. My connection status and signal str remain high but during this period my computer cannot access the internet at all. If I close utorrent then firefox behaves properly without any other changes.I have tried 4 different routers (resolving a seperate issue for a tenant), both utorrent 2.2 (i think, latest anyway) and 1.6. My ports are open and forwarding properly. My ISP is almost certainly not to blame. There seems to be no pattern. I can get 8 hrs solid speed before net death sometimes. Other times utorrent barely gets up to speed before. Sometimes it comes back on its own, but if I leave it on overnite then I almost always wake up to 0's across the board. If I close utorrent, bring up my explorer the internet is fine, and if I start utorrent again it will download again.Another aspect of this issue is connection drops that do not quite hit zero before picking up again. This will happen quite often. Upload and download are affected equally (percentile wise, not number wise). Also when I try to close utorrent I get the 'not responding' thing from windows for a few min before the program quits (unless I end task the damn thing)What in the nine lower hells could cause this?Edit - Here is an image of my speedchart. Simply as it is, I am hoping it can tell someone more than it tells me.
Switeck Posted May 31, 2010 Report Posted May 31, 2010 I know Shaw Cable is hostile towards BitTorrent traffic. How hostile and in what areas I don't know.My guess is your settings in uTorrent are just too much. 1st (slow speed section) and 2nd links in my signature. Also try rafi's uTorrent v2.0.X Migration Guide here: http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=74820
