A ton of memory is gone, but not used

After a couple of hours of seeding, my computer starts getting slower and slower, and the "Available" memory reported by Taskmanager gets dangerously low - BUT the µTorrent process isn't using the memory. At least, it is not reported by the "Mem usage" column in taskmanager.

Both "Disable windows caching of reading/writing" are turned on (so windows caching is disabled), and the cache size override is on 256MB

I have 4GB RAM, when I closed µTorrent I suddenly had 3GB free, before that only about 400MB.

I'm running µTorrent 2.0.2, this did not happen with 2.0.1.

I used it for the same load I often have (4 torrent, each 1GB, were seeding at a total of 500KB/s, they all had less than 20 connected peers)

Running XP x64.

Yes, caching of reads and writes are both enabled. I already said that windows caching of both is disabled (the checkboxes are checked)

What software firewall(s) and antivirus/security products are you running?

They are the most likely cause of the memory leaks.

Have tried: quiting µT and starting it again. This helps temporarily, the trouble just comes back. Running less torrents - problems are slowed but eventually happen.

I have the same problem with uT 2.0.2 It looks like this version ignores "override automatic cache size". I switched to 2.0 and everything works. So there must be sth wrong with 2.0.2.

System is clean.

All options except two last "Disable windows.." are checked, and MB set to 50MB (i've 1GB ram).

I had same settings with 2.0.2 but uT was using 50MB but overall system memory was increasing, like there was some memory leak.

This is likely your problem then. Windows Vista and 7 have VERY poor disk caches for how uTorrent interacts.

If it's not the uTorrent.exe process using the ram, it's some other program as the cause.

If no visible process is using the ram, it's the windows disk cache being stupid.

The 2nd option and a couple later options tell uTorrent to *NOT* use the cache size you told uTorrent to use.
