Can't use relative download directories in versions higher than 1.8.2

I like to use utorrent in a portable way, and to do that I perform these steps:

1. I download utorrent.exe

2. I create an empty file named settings.dat and place it next to utorrent.exe

3. I set-up download directories to be relative to the path of the executable

That's the way I successfully use utorrent in any directory and on any machine...

Now, I used to be using a old version (I guess 1.8.2 if my memory serves me well) in a portable way just as I described earlier, but when I decided to move into version 2 of utorrent this method stopped working, meaning that when I install and use it for the first time and never change the directory in which it is located then it works, but when I change the directory, I get an error that says: "Files missing from job. Please recheck", and when I force rechecking I notice that the download starts from the beginning and that the programs tries to download the torrent into the old directory ignoring the partial files that has been moved with the program into a new directory which makes me believe that the program is using absolute directories instead of relative ones.

I have tried using the final 1.x version which is 1.8.5 Build 17414 and tried the final 2.x version which is 2.0.2 Build 19648 with no luck (same error), but when I reverted to 1.8.2 Build 15296 it worked again.

So my question is, can I make 2.x use relative directories, or am I stuck with 1.8.2 Build 15296?

Note: whenever I try a certain version, I try it on a fresh install of Windows XP on a virtual machine...

Thanks in advance, and sorry for the long post...

In utorrent 1.8.2 Build 15296, relative directories works perfectly fine, I have tried using a copy of the program across many directories and different machines and even tried running the program across network.

I guess this means that I am gonna stay with 1.8.2 ...
