giddy Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 hi,This is a slightly crazy idea but.. we're doing a project for a huge bank with a country wide LAN, now branches far off of HQ have really low bandwidth. 60% of the computers dont have the .net framework installed and Yes, they have IT teams around but we need this up quick so I was thinking of configuring utorrent (or maybe something else?) and get a torrent up. Pcs would seed the setups from a number of places and as people start downloading it, it starts to spread over the LAN and becomes easier to download? Will it work, can I even configure utorrent to do something like this?ThanksGideon
Switeck Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 So long as the file does not change, yes you can do that.
giddy Posted June 25, 2010 Author Report Posted June 25, 2010 So I read that I can setup a utorrent tracker create the torrent.. .now my question is will it make a speed difference on the LAN ... will it, as I hope, spread and then utorrent will contact peers closer and the speed will increase? Thanks
Switeck Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 It depends on whether all participants are unfirewalled to each other. If some are firewalled, they cannot connect to each other normally.uTP may be able to do NAT hole-punching, but other kinds of firewalls may defeat it.
