6speed Posted June 26, 2010 Report Posted June 26, 2010 I had a WRT54G V8 and would get speeds of 1.6 MB per sec. I just bought a netgear WNDR3700 so I could have wireless N. I fowarded the port and everything and have my static ip set and all but i'm topping out at only about 500kB per sec. I just decided to check if its my router and had utorrent running with the new router and was at 550kB per sec, I unplugged my router and plugged in my WRT54G V8 and once it started downloading again I hit 1.2 MB per sec. So unless in that 20 seconds more seeds came on I think its my router. What would cause this? I did speedtest with my iphone on wifi with the new router and hit a higher speed then I ever did with my old router so I know the speed is there. Any ideas?
Switeck Posted June 26, 2010 Report Posted June 26, 2010 Were both routers DEFINITELY using Wireless-N?What encryption was used?Error correction can cause random speed drops if there's lots of radio static.WiFi for whatever reason may be slower with multiple connections than with 1 connection.
6speed Posted June 26, 2010 Author Report Posted June 26, 2010 I'm sorry I forgot to mention, the computer i'm using is wired to the router. So I'm not using wifi with either routers.
Switeck Posted June 27, 2010 Report Posted June 27, 2010 A quickly restarted torrent does have some advantage on reconnecting to still-active peers/seeds over a newly-started torrent or one that hasn't been running for a day or more. So at least the quick reconnect using the Linksys router can be explained by that. The speed differences may depend more on the uTorrent settings and/or router firmware.I must say I'm very impressed at those speeds...I can't even upload at 300 KB/sec let alone 500+!
