Dewdman42 Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 I have a bunch of torrents that have been seeding without problems for quite a while. Out of the blue today for no reason I can figure out, a lot of them started reporting that the actual torrent file can't be found. Indeed I can't find it not either. I really don't want to have to go to the trackers and restart all these torrents one at a time manually. There are literally hundreds. Utorrent seems to display all the information it needs related to the torrent, to it must be stored in the registry or something. Why does utorrent still need the original torrent file and can it be regenerated somehow to get around this problem. I suspect the the torrents are actually running, but statistics aren't being calculated for them. But I'm not sure right now.I love utorrent, but I admit one thing that is simply hard as hell with this program is dealing with stuff like this, where I need to move a lot of files I am seeding into a new location, there is no way to bulk update all the seeding torrents to look in the new volume. Or if torrent files go missing for some reason(speaking of which, they did they all go missing all of a sudden)....now I either have to just forget those or manually reseed them one by one via the tracker website...who has time for that?
moogly Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 And why did you remove the .torrent storage folder set in Preferences > Directories?µT NEEDS a work copy of each torrent job, active or not. By default it is stored in %appdata%\utorrent or in the folder set in Preferences > Directories.Put .torrent files (or the storage folder) back and force a recheck of all the torrent jobs.
Dewdman42 Posted June 28, 2010 Author Report Posted June 28, 2010 I didn't remove them. I still have that setting pointing to my directory where they are supposed to be, and there are hundreds of them still there, but many are not. They disappeared for no reason.
moogly Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 So just move the missing .torrents back and force a recheck, µT should resume the torrent jobs with the .torrent file missing.
Dewdman42 Posted June 28, 2010 Author Report Posted June 28, 2010 Where do I find those missing torrents? They are gone dude.
moogly Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 On internet where you initially downloaded them.
Dewdman42 Posted June 28, 2010 Author Report Posted June 28, 2010 ok I knew how to do that already. That is what I was hoping I could avoid. Please read my post. Thanks, guess I Won't be seeding those anymore.
moogly Posted June 28, 2010 Report Posted June 28, 2010 Next time, make a regular backup of %appdata%\utorrent. And if you want to move a batch of torrents, you can use the freeware BEncode Editor (http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=31306) and edit the file resume.dat to change the path/drive letter of the torrents you want to move. (with the function "find/replace" e.g.).It's transparent for µT.
Dewdman42 Posted June 29, 2010 Author Report Posted June 29, 2010 hey thanks for the reference to the editor, I am DEFINITELY going to use that. Actually i had a couple hundred torrents sitting here waiting for me to figure out how to do that, and guess what it works, so THANKS. I see now that the completed torrent file dir needs to get backed up and why. Thanks.
