utzee Posted June 29, 2010 Report Posted June 29, 2010 hi folks - followed a tutorial on creating my own private torrent .....i was successful but was not able to download it : (***i should mention that i was trying to download the file to another computer in my house running off the same router as the computer that was hosting the file.is this possible or is it a no - go ? could that be the reason why it would not download ?anyone have success trying to accomplish the same as i was trying ?thanks all.
moogly Posted June 30, 2010 Report Posted June 30, 2010 With LPD, it's possible but your router needs to support multicast.
utzee Posted June 30, 2010 Author Report Posted June 30, 2010 moogly - i gotya.thanks for chiming in .....the router is a linksys wrt54gsim not home home now - do know how i would go about checking to see if it has the capability that you are talking about ? (not sure if youre familiar with that router, or if its the same on all of'em)thanks again.
moogly Posted June 30, 2010 Report Posted June 30, 2010 LPD (and PEX and DHT) is disabled if the torrent file has the private flag. The torrent needs to be public.Enable Local Peer Discovery allows µTorrent to attempt to discover local peers via multicast. If a peer is considered local, transfer rates with the peer will not be limited unless Limit local peer bandwidth is also enabled. Local Peer Discovery will not be used for .torrent files with the 'private' flag set. This option serves as a default setting for newly-added torrent jobs, and does not retroactively affect previously-added. This option can be disabled on a per torrent job basis in the respective torrent job's Properties dialog.Topic: http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=63567I don't know your router but research results on Google say it should support UDP multicast.
utzee Posted June 30, 2010 Author Report Posted June 30, 2010 once again, thanks you moogly.will start over from scratch when i get back home and look into those settings.i cant take a look at the link you forwarded right now but soon as i get back - ill read it through.i really appreciate the feedback.im sure youve probably got me set on the right track.will post back w/ reults.
Switeck Posted June 30, 2010 Report Posted June 30, 2010 You can add the other computer to your torrent swarm by running the torrent on both computers and manually doing Add Peer in the Peers window.Just be very sure you get the other computer's ip:port correct! It's probably something like this:192.168.0.102:55000...It might be a good idea to remove the tracker list from the other computer so you're not contacting the tracker with BOTH computers at the same time!
utzee Posted June 30, 2010 Author Report Posted June 30, 2010 Switeck, thanks for that !..........yup - you know, i recall seeing that in the tutorial that i followed - i mean it never crossed my mind but being that you mentioned it here - i do recall seeing them mention something about manually adding the peer.its been a long one - i dont know if ill be able to play around with it tonight. i might have to wait 'till tomorrow.i appreciate you jump'n in.thanks again.im pretty sure it'l be smooth sailing from here on out.
utzee Posted July 1, 2010 Author Report Posted July 1, 2010 well - i havent had much luck ! ....would be nice to try from a second location - i bet there wouldnt be a problem then.the computer where i create / start the torrent seems to show that everything is working as it should be (all green arrows / trackers / etc.,etc., working fine )on the other computer - when i try to download it - i get nothing.a big fat red arrow : (tries a few time to manually add the peer - but nothing shows up after i hit OKAY. ????gonna let this one go - i appreciate the feedback - i really do.what ill do is get off my ass and try to establish a network between the two.if i had done that a long time ago - i wouldnt be here now LOLalso made sure that the private flag did not get checked this time ???
Switeck Posted July 2, 2010 Report Posted July 2, 2010 Did you check in uTorrent's Logger window/tab that the ip:port is even attempted?(Right-click in that window to start logging connection attempts incoming/outgoing as well as handshakes.)
utzee Posted July 2, 2010 Author Report Posted July 2, 2010 i will not lie to you Switeck,no i did not check what you mentioned above.ill have to start over from scratch tomorrow, its a little late and im exhausted man.ill do it all over and post back what i see in the logger window. will do.EDIT:wait - im at the other thread now - all over the place, just responded.
