It appears (to me) that Slyck likes to stirr controversy, or at least make things more sensational than they really are. :/

...while trouble brews at BitTorrent, Inc.

Did it really have to be worded that way? :| On the other hand, at least they're trying to soften the blow that the Peerfactor issue caused a week ago in that small news update...

Yes you could find if something is spyware but again it's not as easy as you make it sound. Watching logs setting up private networks just to monitor a program

Who says you need private networks for that? Trust me: It IS easy to do. There's nothing really hard about monitoring network traffic, especially not when you already know the location, name and specifics of the program you need to monitor it for.

As some have previously pointed out in this thread, there seems to be a deep anti-µtorrent feel coming from slyck.com... I used to think that their articles were good, but lately they've been having far too many factual errors for me ... so now I don't really consider them as a good news source as they used to be..

I beleive in utorrent that it is the best..I tried the same torrent in utorrent and bitcomet...the fast one was utorrent..and I found a flaw of bitcomet that when it downloads anything you must recheck...and sure you will find missing data...unlike utorrent which download everything of the torrent safe, complete and sound...

some idiots have been bashing utorrent on the slyck boards but near everyone defends the program & its author.:)

Paraver: you seem to be terribly confused. :| Peer Exchange is a way to find out about other BitTorrent users, something like DHT. Peer factor is a company, which is probably what you meant. In either case there's nothing to worry about as it doesn't affect µTorrent in any way. ;)

Hi there!

Yes I made a confusion. I was talking about Peer factor. But I wanted to be asked if I allow to share my resources. I do not want something/someone to use them without my explicit agreement. Can UTorrent guarantee that?

Thanks.

By running torrents, you are explicitly agreeing to offer your upload bandwidth to other peers on the torrents you're running.

By enabling DHT, you are contributing a small amount of bandwidth and system resources to help maintain peerlists on torrents (wether you're running them or not)

By enabling Peer Exchange, you are sharing contact information about peers you're connected to with other peers you're also connected to.

... Do you judge all Germans like that too just because of what Hitler/Himmler/Goering/Goebbles and crew did? Or do you think all Americans are like John Johnston? Grow up!

Stated in a more correct way that would be: "Do you judge nazis like that too because of what hitler did."

It was not the Germans who did all that in WWII. It was National Socialists. And not only from Germany (like Hitler himself. He wasnt from Germany..) :P

Dont get me wrong, i dont care what ludde, homer or god did or did not do. But that comparison was too far out for me not to comment. Actualy i cant see any reason why Nasism should even be used for comparing anything/anyone here.

I really like µtorrent. Unfortunately i dont share the same feelings for the forum users. Someone said elitists. I would have to agree 100 %.

Next time let's talk about the "evil" nami.torrent.com transaction ( since bittorent is now "evil" huhg ) in DHT :

IP address: 38.114.167.69

Reverse DNS: nami.bittorrent.com

btw DHT is not blocked at all by blocklist.

...if you really do illegal things don't use torrent anyway since PG2 is a pure 'basic' block list nothing block others protocols or unknow IPs ;-)

Legal p2p law was voted in France... bad news ! sorry ;-)

It's with a bit of a heavy heart that I delete uTorrent today, never to return. The program is absolutely awesome with its tiny footprint, incredible featureset, and the best autoupdate I've ever seen. It's the best torrent client for Windows, bar none.

Unfortunately, I just can't forgive the author for consorting with a company so obviously bent on harming the P2P community. I don't know anyone who would take a job without Googling the company first, if for no other reason than to know what to talk about in an interview. I think Ludde knew very well what he was getting into and he didn't think the community would make so much noise about it, or more likely he didn't think anyone would find out at all.

I find it hard to say anything bad about Ludde because who could claim that he hasn't done enough for the BT community? Still, his stubborn and minimal words combined with his reluctance to open the souce tip the scale for me. Even if he isn't helping an anti-P2P company outright, he is helping an advertising company allow home PCs to upload ads to eachother. I've never known adware to ask me nicely if it can pay me to turn my computer into an advertising server so I presume this much discussed DLL file won't exactly be used to turn the internet into a better place.

I'm really, really sorry to switch back to Azureus, though that's a great client as well. I loved uTorrent and made sure all my friends switched to it, but now I'm going to show them the Slick article and tell them all to switch back to Azureus.

Ludde, honestly, I thank you very much for your selfless contributions in making a truly excellent program and giving it away for free. I respect that more than any other human trait, but you signed away your scruples in your actions and your words, and in a market of free software there's really no benefit to putting myself at risk (even imagined risk) to pledge an allegiance.

I wish you the best of luck in programming your freeware and your adware.
