Mattothee Posted July 31, 2010 Report Posted July 31, 2010 Whenever I open utorrent, it kills my internet connection instantly. I cannot connect to internet pages stating that the connection timed out. I also cannot connect to my router. But downloads in utorrent download fine. I have two pc's on the same network, one with windows 7 and one with xp, whenever i open utorrent on any of them, the connection is killed, and neither can access the router or internet. Which makes me think it may be a router issue, (even though the exact same router has worked perfectly in the past) I have fiddled around with settings on utorrent, re-installed it, unistalled my antivirus, but nothing seems to solve my issue, this seems like a specific issue. Any suggestions? thanks

Mattothee Posted July 31, 2010 Author Report Posted July 31, 2010 Thanks but i have tried most of these solutions, and as i say mine seems to be more specific. The light is always green on utorrent, could it maybe be my network drivers? the problem also occurs in Vuze, but not in bitlord. everything is down the moment i open utorrent, before it even starts downloading. It happened ever since i upgraded to windows 7, but now also occurs on XP on the same network.any suggestions?
DreadWingKnight Posted July 31, 2010 Report Posted July 31, 2010 Provide the information the troubleshooting guide requested then.
Mattothee Posted July 31, 2010 Author Report Posted July 31, 2010 I am pretty sure the problem lies outside utorrent, what i want to know is can windows 7 be the problem? can my network drivers be the problem? does anyone else have this problem and did they fix it? and what settings would i have to change on my router if it was the problem, thanks.IF THIS HELPS (i doubt it will)tried disabling upnp, DHT etcThe state/value of all of the options you were recommended to change up above.: all the values suggestedColor of the network status light in µTorrent's status bar (at the bottom of the µTorrent main window) : greenWhat the Speed Guide shows your settings to be (press Ctrl+G in µTorrent): 384k upload What you have net.max_halfopen set to (Preferences > Advanced in µTorrent), and if you ever modified TCPIP.sys, what you patched the limit to : half open set to 4Operating system installed (Windows XP, 2000, ME, 98, 95, NT? Something else?) windows 7Security software installed (firewall, antivirus, antispyware, antiadware) NOD4 (when uninstalled same problem occurs)Exact router model(s), and exact modem model: mecer 4 port router (has worked perfectly in the past)
paintball9 Posted July 31, 2010 Report Posted July 31, 2010 Have you tried disabling IPv6? (look in my sig)
Mattothee Posted August 1, 2010 Author Report Posted August 1, 2010 Yes thanks, tried that, unfortunately not working, wondering if there is anything that would directly effect my router the moment i open utorrent?
paintball9 Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 There are a lot of routers that are just not capable of handling that quantity of connections, you can try disabing uTP (bandwidth management). Some users have reported better speeds without it.
Mattothee Posted August 2, 2010 Author Report Posted August 2, 2010 still not working - will contact my isp - thanks for the help anyway
awebstuff Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 I was having the exact same problem, after about 30 seconds of opening utorrent, my internet connection in any other application stops working.I am on a Mac Pro OX X 10.6 with a D-link router on ethernet.uTorrent was showing the green light with connection working, outgoing encryption set to force encryption, all other settings are default.Downloading 5 torrents.I tried lowering the connection limits (Preferences/BitTorrent) to:Global limit: 50Per torrent limit: 10This sees to have fixed the problem and am getting good speeds.
hkBattousai Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 Just decrease total number of simultaneous connections.Options > Preferences > Bandwidth > Number of ConnectionsDefault values:Connections = 200Peers = 50Enter smaller values like:Connections = 10Peers = 4However, this may decrease your average transfer rate.
Switeck Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 I'd say set global max connections to 50-100, and max connections per torrent to 30.Disable in uTorrent:UPnP, NAT-PMP, DHT (both kinds!), LPD, uTP, and Resolve IPs. (ALL must be disabled before you are likely to see an improvement.)You may also need to disable Teredo and/or IPv6...but that must be done in windows not uTorrent!Back in uTorrent, the only other thing to try is reduce bt.connect_speed to only attempting 1-4 new outgoing connection attempts to peers or seeds...and reducing net.max_halfopent to 1-8 simultaneous outgoing TCP connection attempts at once.
awebstuff Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 Actually, lowering connection limits does not seemed to have worked for me.It did work at first but today it is not working.I have moved countries recently so I'm guessing it's my ISP
Switeck Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 Maxonline in Singapore is absolutely a horrid "ISP". I can't even SEED/upload to them well from my ISP (ComCast in the USA)...despite having little trouble uploading to many other ISPs around the world.
jokesarcade1 Posted November 5, 2010 Report Posted November 5, 2010 same problem was with me, i had contact with my isp provider and they resolved my problem.i was in really worry about this.contact your isp provider, hope this will help. Thanks
