It wastes a minimal amount of bandwidth (we're talking about a few hundred KB over several hours -- maybe more than just that), but for those who want to save every little bit they can, turning DHT off might be the way to go. On the other hand, you get a bigger cache of peers to tap into (though that might not always be helpful).
