grmmu Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 so, here's the deal: the program crashes whenever i try to dl something. it downloads for a while, then suddenly the blue screen of death appears and the system reboots. i have tried hard to fix this, even formatted the entire drive and put it on a fresh system, didn't help. it also happens with other torrent programs (bittorrent). i'm starting to think it's a hardware malfunction, but that makes no sense. note, it didn't happen before i upgraded my pc, now it's running on Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300, 2GB DDR3 RAM, 32-bit windows7 ultimate installed. and it's crashing. help?
Switeck Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 Does the bluescreen remain visible long enough to read the message? If so, is it "irql not less or equal" or some such nonsense?
grmmu Posted August 22, 2010 Author Report Posted August 22, 2010 yup. i managed to take a photo of the bluescreen, hope it helps:
DreadWingKnight Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 What make and model network adapter?
grmmu Posted August 22, 2010 Author Report Posted August 22, 2010 erm, you're asking about the modem? it's WebStar EPC2100 scientific atlanta.
DreadWingKnight Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 no, the network adapter in your computer that connects to said modem.
grmmu Posted August 22, 2010 Author Report Posted August 22, 2010 oh, pardon my ignorance. that would be: Atheros AR8121/AR8113/AR8114 PCI-E Ethernet Controller(NDIS6.20)
DreadWingKnight Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 And have you checked with the manufacturer (motherboard/computer or atheros) for updates?
grmmu Posted August 22, 2010 Author Report Posted August 22, 2010 nope. i suppose that's my next step i'll let you know if it helps.
DreadWingKnight Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 Also, what internet security software?
Switeck Posted August 22, 2010 Report Posted August 22, 2010 "irql not less or equal" basically means driver DLL crash. Probably your networking drivers...which is why DWK is having you chase them down.NETIO.SYS <- is that a Microsoft file or something that got installed as part of your network adapter or 3rd party security software?
grmmu Posted August 25, 2010 Author Report Posted August 25, 2010 Internet security software is Avira. I downloaded and applied the latest network adapter drivers, alas, the problem persists. Netio.sys, huh, dunno how and why it got installed. I can find it in C:\Windows\System32\drivers and in C:\Windows\winsxs\somethingsomething folder.
GTHK Posted August 25, 2010 Report Posted August 25, 2010 Windows update and maybe test with Avira COMPLETELY uninstalled.
