Utorrent causes computer freeze

Recommended Posts

I'm running Windows XP. The freeze occurrs after a random length of time. Could be a few minutes, or a couple of hours.

A bit of background: I have done a search and read the FAQs. Removing AVG doesn't seem to have done the trick. I think it might be something to do with my wireless internet, but I'm not sure. And even then I wouldn't know what to do about it so was hoping for some advice.

One more fairly important thing: I've had this problem for over a year now. Last year in November, I moved out of my parents place (temporarily for uni) and did not have this problem for the entire time I lived there. We still used wireless internet there, the only difference being that the router was a BThome hub. Everything else was the same: the computer, the net adapter etc. ( and of course I had tweaked the settings in utorrent to match my connection, following the guides you provide). At home (as in, now) I have a netgear router, and have reset my settings to how they were last year.

I've never posted on here before so I hope I'm providing the correct information:

PE log missing DLL list. Try updating your drivers, direct from source and try the pc builder, networking disk and chipset especially. I remember some program (maybe diskeeper?) trying to optimize HDD caching in some way and that conflicted horribly with programs that disable caching, is that in diskeeper?

Yeah, I have diskeeper lite or something installed. Is it worth getting rid of?

When you say update drivers, do you mean the ones for the net adapter? I think I tried this before but it screwed my connecton up (as in... there was no longer any kind of a connection) and had a time and a half trying to roll it back. I think the exact type of router I have is not very common (and it's old) so the latest update is from like, three years ago. But I'll give it a go again

What, may I ask, is the PC builder?

Thanks for your help. Sorry for all the questions that may seem awfully obvious.

I don't know if disk keeper has the feature I spoke of, you'd have to check that. Networking drivers especially but motherboard chipset and drive controller drivers are also candidates. A sticky thread on the forum somewhere covers making a proper PE log.
