back-up torrents confusion

I viewed one of the posts to find that to back-up torrents, you go to a certain folder. Well, I eventually got there. My problem now is that some .torrent files have the same name. The first looks like this: [name].[type of file]. The second one I got was of the same name but now it appears like this: [name].[type of file].1 . Now my question is what is that ".1" that I see and what does that mean? I am not sure if that is because the .torrent files I am downloading sometimes get swapped but that is just my theory. Please verify this and tell me which is more appropriate for me to use as back-up.

I hope this link would make it more clear:

PS. I am sure I did not just copied then renamed those files. I even manually added everything last time and now I want it to be quick.

Thanks for that moogly! Now i can update my uTorrent but before that... am I going to add all these .torrent files manually after or before updating? and what about the "labels" in which I placed in them? (add settings and back-up rss feeds to complete my request)

Thanks again moogly.

If your read carefully the workaround, you will see only useless .torrent files are deleted, history and settings remain the same.

At the end the folder %appdata%\utorrent contains resume.dat & settings.dat AND the .torrent files corresponding to torrent jobs loaded in µT.

Well, now I have my back-up. Now my problem is that when I use "autoload torrents from folder", it loads up to some point then crashes, so now I can't use that function. Also, the torrents are now opting me to save the files to my D drive, but my files are in C,D, and L. how do I work around with this? I don't want to select everything manually... I already viewed the BENCODE-EDITOR but still don't know how to use the resume.dat file.

this here is the link which I found to have similar problems by the way...http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=82922...where I updated once from 2.02 to 2.03 and all my listed .torrent files disappeared...

PS. L is an external hard disk which I already filled to the brim. C and D are my local hard drives.

PPS. I made sure my ehd is stuck in drive letter L forever...

µT shouldn't crash when you're using autoloading!

Do you have some crash dumps (.dmp) in %appdata%\utorrent?

If yes upload them to http://www.mediafire.com/ and post the link here.

In addition I don't understand why you used autoloading. If your goal was to remove the useless .torrent files (with extension .1 etc), and save the folder %appdata%\utorrent into a safe place as backup, the workaround is enough. And in this case you don't need to autoload any torrents.

Well, the workaround did help me in knowing which .torrent file is being used -- those with the ".1"s in it.

And the .dmp file:

The report actually told me to close a program. Also, what was written in the report's suggestion was to disable or uninstall it. Disabling it is the only option for me 'cause the program it was asking was my only antivirus program.I closed it but then is still reported the same problem.

My real goal was to back-up all the .torrent files in my µTorrent list of which I am currently seeding, and it happened to be a lot. Then I was hoping that µTorrent will load all of it, with the existing "download to folder" setting of each torrent intact. Afterwards I will update it, hoping again that µTorrent will still have my seeding list.
