abrogard
Trying to do a private file transfer to my brother I made a private tracker, following instructions, never done it before. I made this: http://203.171.115.83:65530/announce and put it in a torrent and loaded the torrent and it reported tracker not working because: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. I went back to the instructions and saw they also said to make a 'localhost' tracker and so I made it and put it in a torrent and went to load it. That one looks like this: http://localhost:65530/announce uTorrent told me that torrent was already in the list, did I want to load trackers from it? I said yes and it loaded that tracker and within a few seconds that tracker reported as 'working'. The situation remains like that. One tracker in error, one tracker working. The only person I could ask to check for me reports that his machine said there was 'no peer'. Can anyone explain what I've done wrong here, how to fix it? regards, ab p.s. uTorrent reports my port is forwarded correctly and open.
Switeck
Private trackers only work well if everyone is on the same LAN.Otherwise, it's far less painful to just use a public tracker like:http://tracker.openbittorrent.com/announceorhttp://tracker.publicbt.com/announce
paintball9
If you guys are in the same network, Local Peer Discover will probably make things easier. Just make sure the torrent you create isn't set to private and give him the file. You guys should connect right away, without the need to host a tracker. If you're not on the same network you can do the same thing with DHT instead. (same setup, just don't set the torrent as private. A tracker is not needed)
abrogard
Well thanks for that. So I created a new torrent using your trackers and it seemed okay on my machine. Then I installed utorrent on my wife's machine (on the same LAN) and fed it that torrent. It seemed happy - said there was 1 seed and 1 peer - but it didn't download a byte. so I destroyed that torrent and created another which included the http://localhost:65530/announce tracker, just in case that would help. My machine accepted it okay but my wife's machine gave that same error message bout connection refused by the target machine. So I deleted that torrent and created one using just your trackers again and tried again and waited more patiently this time. But nothing moved, not a byte So I found a torrent on the web for my wife's utorrent installation (which - I should say - I had run the 'setup' on) and fed it to it. Her installation happily started downloading that file immediately. My own machine wasn't doing anything - it has always worked fine but I currently was only downloading a file that had always been very, very slow and now it was completely stopped - and I'd stopped all uploads because they were getting into gigabytes going up with nothing coming down. So I figured just maybe my installation was crook so I got a torrent from the web and fed it to it and - it started downloading it immediately at quite a healthy speed - 54kB/s and with my wife's doing > 100KB/s that's all our bandwidth taken care of.So our uTorrents are alright. It must be my Torrent somehow?
paintball9
Well the tracker/peer finding part of the torrent is working fine. (the peer is the downloading computer and the seed is the one you made the torrent on). Somewhere along the way something is blocking the actual connection however. Make sure your firewall settings are set to allow utorrent access on both machines and that they are both set to use different ports (could cause problems on a single router managed network)
abrogard
Got no firewalls - only Avira antivirus - rely on the router to block bad traffic. And they both have different ports - mine has something in the 65000 range and my wife's took the default it threw up, something around 47 thousand I think. What is different about a torrent I put up as against all the other torrents my utorrent is working on? My utorrent, as I said, is functioning fine when I test it with other torrents. Does your utorrent find the file and report 1 peer 1 seed? I have destroyed that torrent, too, and this time I've created one 'not private' it has these trackers:http://localhost:65530/announcehttp://tracker.openbittorrent.com/announcehttp://tracker.publicbt.com/announceall reported as 'working' by utorrent.i don't understand the difference between private trackers and non private - but it didn't make any difference anyway. what a puzzle? should I reinstall utorrent, maybe? Switeck
Can you post a Process Explorer log, showing what DLLs are loading with utorrent.exe?(1st link of my signature, Last post, last section.)...If you've ruled out the software firewall, that leaves possible hostile software (malware). abrogard
They load just because utorrent loads? You can tell that from that list? I'll check my wife's machine. I didn't put that software there and run it yet... I'll get back as soon as I can... thank you for your help... I imagine she won't have them. DreadWingKnight
Process explorer shows a list of dlls that have loaded or injected into a given process, with those in the list for the utorrent.exe process, we can't help but suspect the associated programs (because none of those are required for uTorrent to operate)
abrogard
well though I recognise them none of them should be running normally and i don't really see why any of them should be running in the background...... perhaps I should look to uninstalling them or stopping those processes in task manager and then try utorrent? GTHK
Autodesk and scansoft are primary targets.
abrogard
Well I'll look for them and root them out if I can. scansoft is part of omnipage which I don't need anymore, I find free ocr is better than my version of it. And autodesk I can do without at least while I check this out. You mean they are loading when utorrent loads? they're not already loaded? is this normal behaviour for such apps? are they running as services or something and they check each app I load to see if it needs scanning or something? (what a drawing package would be looking for I'm damned if I know) Anyway, I'll get them out. and if I get a chance today I'll create this torrent on my wife's machine and see if can be accessed from there, uploaded from there. turn the situation around. thanks for your help, guys...p.s. A bit of an update, later edit:I tried it on my wife's machine. Build a torrent there. Her machine is on the same LAN. It only has two ethernet wired machines on it, and two more wireless connected machines. The wireless router is not a modem and is configured not to do any dchp, it has no control at all, is merely a switch now - all config is through the adsl modem/router.This is what I did, following different instructions again found on the web:. I enabled tracker at bt.enable_tracker in her utorrent. I enabled web UI and supplied a username and password. I checked 'alternative listening port' and provided a numberI forwarded that port on the router.. I made up an URL for the tracker using her local IP (192.x.x.x - same range as the router). I made the torrent and clicked on it to get it into her utorrent install.. It went in there and said 'downloading' but nothing happened. The amount 'done' was zero. And if I remember right it showed no seeds, no peers. When I first put my torrent into my machine I remember it immediately showed 1 seed, 1 peer and 100% loaded. I don't undeerstand any of that.I went to my machine and got her torrent file and pointed my machine to it.My utorrent said the file already existed did I want to load the trackers from it.I said 'yes'. the trackers loaded. The file started UPLOADING from my machine!I dashed over to her machine to see what was happening and sure enough it was downloading there. So now it exists on both machines. How it moves from my machine to hers with trackers pointing to her machine I don't know. I'm obviously very, very ignorant as to how this software works. If you care to check if it is seeable from the outside world now here's the current tracker list:http://192.168.1.102:62000/announce http://localhost:65530/announcehttp://tracker.openbittorrent.com/announcehttp://tracker.publicbt.com/announce and the top two, of course, are from my wife's machine.those instructions I followed for making a torrent also said 'never enter a private tracker URL in the Tracker's List - you may get tagged for cheating.'I don't know what this means and I don't want to 'get tagged for cheating' - do you know what it is about? p.p.s. another edit: Sorry, my mistake, you haven't got the torrent, have you, so you can't check from that end. ah well. I see that three of the trackers I listed have come up in a different colour in the forum posts, but the localhost hasn't. Does that mean they're recognised as something - does it mean they are causing something (bad?) to happen?
Switeck
. I made up an URL for the tracker using her local IP (168.x.x.x - same range as the router)...If you care to check if it is seeable from the outside world now here's the current tracker list:http://192.168.1.102:62000/announce http://localhost:65530/announcehttp://tracker.openbittorrent.com/announcehttp://tracker.publicbt.com/announce and the top two, of course, are from my wife's machine.A problem...you mentioned above a very strange local IP range -- 168.x.x.x, yet the announce uses 192.x.x.xIs this a typo or some strange routing I don't understand?"I don't know what this means and I don't want to 'get tagged for cheating' - do you know what it is about?"If you were a member of a private tracker, you are required to maintain a high upload-to-download ratio. Posting "fake" torrents to such a website is grounds for instant banning, which your test torrents could easily be mistaken for!"Sorry, my mistake, you haven't got the torrent, have you, so you can't check from that end."If you supplied a magnet link posted here at the forum OR uploaded the .torrent file to a place like rapidshare.com that shouldn't be a problem. "I see that three of the trackers I listed have come up in a different colour in the forum posts, but the localhost hasn't."Apparently localhost one isn't treated as a standard web shortcut URL link like the other 3 are. Don't worry about it. Do the trackers window/tab in uTorrent report the trackers as updating correctly?Does uTorrent's Logger window/tab show connection attempts/failures? (Right-click in that window and enable *EVERYTHING* but the verbose stuff!)
abrogard
Sorry, yes, that was a typo. I've edited it and changed it. The trackers are updated correctly. I've enabled all the logging except verbose. The logging window shows connection attempts/failures alright - but I guess you meant for 'bush mechanic', did you? I haven't checked that yet. How? If I delete the Torrent and data on my wife's machine I suppose that I can load the torrent in there again and it'll successfully upload from my machine again - will that be informative data, seeing the log of that event?Or I can delete everything everywhere and go back to my machine and the torrent I made for it - identical to hers, I suppose, but with different trackers - and try again to get the file - hopefully with someone on the net trying to get it ( the wife's machine being inside the LAN isn't the same kind of test, is it? ) and look at the log of it..... is that more what you've got in mind?I'm happy to upload the .torrent but which one? the 'successful' one from my wife's machine? Or the (it seems) failed one on my machine? Are they in fact identical but just containing different trackers? In that case can they be edited to add trackers? Or do they contain different stuff owing to the different settings on the machines when creating them?I could upload both and rename them. I believe names don't matter, right? uTorrent reads the contents and then tells you that you've already got that file listed 'do you want to load the trackers?' - is that right?I'll assume it is and I'll upload both to rapidshare.comI don't know what the 'magnet link' method is.thanks again for your help.... my mate reckons forget it but I reckon there's something wrong either in my machine or in uTorrent on my machine and it needs sorting out....I'll get onto it all as soon as I can... little kids permitting...... but I think it is not so urgent, perhaps, you're up and about at different times to myself I think..... I'm at GMT + 9 Here we go: two .torrent files uploaded:http://rapidshare.com/files/417747471/Bush_Mechanics_Series_1_Episode_2.mp4.torrentMD5: AA7BCE858746B758DE5C8D1FD8FD5CE7http://rapidshare.com/files/417747875/WifesBush_Mechanics_Series_1_Episode_2.mp4.torrent (MD5: E86012A5DB5051A13B10F8F080B1F757)
Switeck
I started the first torrent. Really if they're only differing by trackers I can add the extra one.Really no point in adding localhost OR 192.168.x.x, as those ONLY exist inside a computer or LAN.But it seems you've stopped the torrent now, as the trackers report only my ip on them. abrogard
I had the computer switched off. I decided to reboot everything, modem/router, wireless router and pc. My utorrent was supposed to be using port 65535 but my modem/router showed utorrent as port forwarded on 65530. So I tried to change the modem to 65535 and it wouldn't let me because it claimed that port was already assigned! But no such assignment showed in the list. Perhaps my wife's utorrent was set up to use 65530 and automatic port forwarding has perhaps done that - I'm not sure. Anyway, it seems to be a bit of a mess. I don't know if they are only differing by trackers. I'd suppose they are but I'm ignorant. They'd contain the location of the original file, I guess, in the first instance, wouldn't they? After all this screwing around - deleting torrents to start again - I've now got my utorrent showing no part of the (bush mechanic) file yet downloaded, no peers, 2 seeds - 1 of which it claims to be connected to, which would be itself, and it is doing nothing, downloading at zero knots. You can add a tracker on your utorrent 'usage' of the torrent, can't you, I did that - but there's no way you can add a tracker into the torrent file itself is there? I'll leave my machine on for the next five hours or so - we generally don't leave them on all night if they're not doing anything...... p.s. I stopped everything except bush mechanic. And copied a bit of the log for you... I can see for myself there's a port hassle..........[2010-09-08 18:30:01] *** Starting Diagnostic thread ***[2010-09-08 18:30:01] IPv6 is installed[2010-09-08 18:30:02] 68.35.194.175:65501 [uTP](Bush Mechanics Series 1 Episode 2.mp4): Connecting: source: C[2010-09-08 18:30:02] 68.35.194.175:65501(Bush Mechanics Series 1 Episode 2.mp4): Connecting: source: C[2010-09-08 18:30:02] UPnP: ERROR mapping TCP port 65535 -> 192.168.1.101:65535. Switeck
Quit trying to use port 65535 or even 65530. Choose a different port between 50000 and 60000 and use that.UPnP apparently can't forward correctly, so even your wife's computer can't connect to yours.Disable UPnP and NAT-PMP and manually forward the router instead."I don't know if they are only differing by trackers. I'd suppose they are but I'm ignorant."The missing trackers are worthless. LAN ips and localhost cannot be used as remote tracker addresses. localhost will only work on the same computer and LAN ips will only work for other computers on the same LAN.
