bowman60
Hi there. Im currently using the newest version of utorrent (1.5) and i thought this was going to adderss my dht problem. Network Icon in the program is green and says ports are working as they should. The problem is dht status is stuck at "waiting for login" or "(0)login". As such i dont have any connections via dht. Im using a netgear rp614 router. Port 32459 is forwarded and even the built in port test in utorrent says it is connectable. I have also tried disabling SPI as i've read in one post but still no connection via dht. My downloads and uploads are working ok, i get good speeds up/downstream as long as the torrent has a healthy number of seeders and leechers. I tried connecting my pc directly to the modem and with this setup i could connect via dht so this might be a router issue but Im sure though that port 32459 is forwarded properly, i followed exact instructions at portforward.com. Upnp is disabled in both the router and utorrent. Trying to set DMZ server did nothing, still no dht. Any ideas?
Firon
You sure you forwarded the UDP port too?
bowman60
I checked and double checked the help section of the netgear website. It says there that port forwarding in netgear is always both for TCP and UDP. Once you forward a port, it is open for both TCP and UDP connections. This makes sense as the port foward setup page of the netgear rp614 does not have options of whether you're openning TCP or UDP. But you're right, given the facts that i stated, it would seem like my UDP port is not forwarded properly.
bowman60
anymore ideas about this? i tried openning up port 32459 in my firewall (zone alarm pro 6.xx) but still no dht connections.

bowman60
"allow all outgoing UDP ports (and TCP) for µTorrent"you mean in the firewall? i did that, opened both UDP and TCP ports at 32459 but no luck. im really stumped!!!

Firon
If you take out the router and connect to the modem directly, does it work?
bowman60
yes ive tried that and it works, utorrent can make DHT connections without the router.
Firon
So, I think you're not alone. Seems like Netgear routers are somehow blocking all UDP communication?
bowman60
yeah it certainly seems that way...ill try to get some answers in their website. thank you very much for your time.

bowman60
FironIm happy to report to you that my utorrent suddenly could make DHT connections. I woke up and saw that it had several hundred nodes connected. I really didnt do anything...last i did was to open ports in Zone alarm pro which initially did not work but eventually did. One more clarification though...I noticed an alert twice from zone alarm saying that "utorrent is trying to send out email." Does utorrent send out email from my pc to your website for your evaluation? I blocked it the first two times but if this is something utorrent does to give feedback to developers then id allow it. Please clarify this. Thanks!!
bowman60
Shortly after i posted my previous reply, i noticed that utorrent wasnt able to make DHT connections again. I followed advise from the netgear forums which worked. Just thought i'd share it to other netgear users. First off you MUST delete the port forward service you created for utorrent in the router setup page. After this, set your pc as a DMZ server. If it still wont work, disable the SPI function of the router. This didnt work for me the first time i tried it because i did not delete the utorrent port forward service i created. Hope this helps. bionic
Thx for sharing that I use a RP614 v3 and now i have DHT connections again. For me it was enough to enable then disable the DMZ.
bowman60
Yes bionic, mine worked without disabling SPI as well. Glad to be of help.
