codemaker
Hi Guys,I trying to configure Tor with utorrent. I've noticed that there is no Socks4a and I've read that the only way to resolve hostnames is through Socks4a not with Socks5 or Socks4.My question is:Is it true that resolve hostnames can't work with Socks5 if I use the option??Thanks for the help and the explaination
DreadWingKnight
I've noticed that there is no Socks4a and I've read that the only way to resolve hostnames is through Socks4a not with Socks5 or Socks4.You've read incorrectly. Please re-read the Socks5 specification document.Socks5 supports resolving hostnames over it.
Firon
SOCKS5 is a superset of 4a.
codemaker
Sorry guys, but I read something about it here:-https://trac.torproject.org/projects/tor/wiki/TheOnionRouter/TorFAQ#IkeepseeingthesewarningsaboutSOCKSandDNSandinformationleaks.ShouldIworry"When your application uses SOCKS 4 or SOCKS 5 to give Tor an IP address, Tor guesses that it 'probably' got the IP address non-anonymously from a DNS server."Thanks for all your replies. DreadWingKnight
We don't support or endorse the use of uTorrent with tor.And neither do they.
codemaker
Sorry, I didn't know that. If it's OK, I would like to ask why?
DreadWingKnight
The massive amount of load that is generated by p2p applications makes them not recommended for use over tor.Plus, you end up permanently firewalled if you use such a proxy.
