silverfire
Since µTorrent is intended to be lighter than most other programs in terms of memory footprint, resource usage, etc., I think what we should be focusing on isn't how bloated the program would be, how useful things are or whatever. What we should be focusing on is necessity, as in considering "This is useful, but will others need this feature?"It's extremely easy to post something saying that you want a feature because it would be useful to yourself, but try to bring up valid examples of why others (not just yourself) would need this feature. It's also probably a good idea to sleep on the idea, since I had a few earlier that I squelched overnight since I realized that as useful as it would be for myself, nobody else would be using it.Another thing to take into consideration is if another program can already carry out the functions of what you're suggesting. While it may be a convenience to have that functionality put into µTorrent, it usually isn't necessary, and threads asking for those features tend to degenerate very quickly. Also, posting a poll with each feature request with 'Yes' and 'No' only would help since people might want to have the option of expressing their opinion without having to post. Pixelz
I agree with you to some extent. I think most people would agree that it's good to keep the main program as small and efficient as possible. Many of the ideas on this forum are a little far out there. However, hopefully it will make the developers see that the only way to keep everybody happy is to create some kind of plugin system. Now, while we wait for that, don't loose sleep over the fact that the devs are or could be working on features that aren't useful for everyone. Whenever plugin support gets done, those parts of the program can always be moved out to plugins.
chaosblade
While i also agree, I believe that ludde and vurlix have already shown they filter out through the requests reasonablly, as each revision added NEEDED aswell as USEFUL features. NiteShdw
One BitTorrent program, perhaps BitComet, has a page for feature requests. The use submits a request, then other users can vote it up or down. Thus, the developers can see the most requested features.I believe that μTorrent could benefit from such a page. Users could vote on the usefulness of the feature as well.
chaosblade
I think the amount of replys on a thread requesing a feature is a good indication also. If we only had moderators to combine threads on the same issue
ScubaSteve
although the voting system would be a good idea, it doesnt always work like it should. if you noticed the ipfilter topic the votes were clearly leaning towards no but it seems that the feature is going to be built in anyway. so in that respect its kinda pointless trying to use a voting system as its upto the developers. silverfire
In no way did I say that the votes would correspond to what goes in there - I just said that it would be a better indicator of where the public opinion is going. I also do agree that as spectacular a job as vurlix, ludde, and anyone else are doing, we cound use a few more moderators.
ScubaSteve
what i was trying to say is that the polls dont realy seem to be that useful on discussing feature requests as they dont usually get taken into account. i think the only real way is if ppl post there views on the feature and how it could be beneficial to others aswell as them.
