karmeron Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 I upgraded to 2.0.4 and since then My download speeds are 50% of what they are.Nothing else has changed at all and the effect was almost immidiate after the upgrade. My connection is cable - 24meg downloadload and 2meg upload. Im now only getting a max of 1meg download no matter what torrents (i tried all the officeorg/ubuntu test ones aswell) they are.Decent torrents used to reach the full 2.4meg speed in like 1-2mins of starting the torrent, now i only see 1meg.Ive tried the guides in peoples sigs and stickies with no joy, tried all different settings and nothing has changed it.From reading around it seems a good few people are seeing this problem when upgrading to the latest version and been told it has to be their isp or they havent followed guide, when it seems that there have been some internal changes to the program which have probably caused this.Anyone any suggestions. I can post any info you need on my settings etc-Im on windows 2008 server sp2 (so no halfopen connection limit in the os). Firewall is a smoothwall setup on a dedicated machine, ports manually forwarded and no problems there, everything green.-Speedguide is showing the exact speeds I SHOULD be getting and detects 24meg down and 2 up. and it has a green for the ports etc.-ISP have not changed anything and glostnost showing ok. ISP is a known non shaping one and worked at full speed until upgrade of utorrent-net.max_halfopen set to 50 (ive tried higher and lower aswell)-bt.tcp_rate_control - set to false, i tried true aswell-bt.transp_disposition set to 21, (all tried aswell)-bt.connect_speed - 10 (i tried default aswell)- maximum upload rate is 170kb/s (ive tried all different settings here)- max download rate is 0 - this is because i mainly just use this connection for torrents (i have tried 1700 kb/s aswell.)- apply limit rate to transport overhead and utp ticked (i tried off aswell)- global max no of connections - 1000 ( tried a few diff settings here too)- max no of connected peers per torrent - 100 (tried higher and lower also)- no of upload slots per torrent - 8- protocol encryption is enabled and incoming legacy connections allowed aswell (i have tried both off aswell)- bandwidth management is off (i tried it on aswell)- NAT-PMP enabledAnyone any ideas, its really wrecking my head trying to fix this as I've lost 50% of my download speed without doing anything other than upgrading utorrent Any point in uninstalling and reinstalling?
Switeck Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 I didn't see the name of your ISP, nor any mention of what speedtest.net got as down/up speed max for your connection to confirm if only uTorrent is affected. No mention as well that your router is at fault and killing uTorrent's speeds....Or if you're using Wi-Fi with an active radio jammer nearby -- such as a microwave oven or large power transformer. If you connect to the internet through USB, that's worthy of note as well...as that usually causes slowdowns or outright crashes.
karmeron Posted October 19, 2010 Author Report Posted October 19, 2010 ISP is NTLspeedtest.net - 24.06 mb/sec, upload 2.12 mb/sec - Nothing else is affected, only utorrent.I dont use a router. It is pc - switch (non-managed) - firewall box (smoothwall) - modem(all security features switched off on this, only used as a bridge). The firewall is fully configured for utorrent. This setup has been working for over a year with no changes. No wifi and no usb modem etcAs mentioned above, nothing else has any speed issues, only utorrent and only since upgrading it.nothing has changed since it was working fine, only the version of utorrent and thats exactly when this issue occured. I have been using this exact setup for at least a year with no issues.
Switeck Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 "Firewall is a smoothwall setup on a dedicated machine"Can you tell if all incoming packets are being forwarded by that correctly?
mcaspi Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 I would first select 2Mb from the drop-down menu in Setup Guide. Your settings are not as recommended (global max connections is twice).
karmeron Posted October 19, 2010 Author Report Posted October 19, 2010 "Firewall is a smoothwall setup on a dedicated machine"Can you tell if all incoming packets are being forwarded by that correctly?Yep. Like i said,it was working perfect until upgrade of utorrent, all other programs etc working fine also. UDP and TCP custom port forwarded correctly and utorrent configured for that port correctly and utorrent shows all green ticks for connections, I never have any connection issues with utorrent only the speed is 50% less. Also I have tried 2meg from the dropdown. These are just the settings I have at the moment from trying to get it to run at 100% speed again, but I have tried a lot of other combos of settings with no joy.
mcaspi Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 If you have the 2Mb settings, max global connections can't be 1000. Set it again to 2Mb and make sure that max global connections is 500.

mcaspi Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 Why do you think that I haven't read what you wrote? If you have the upload speed 2Mb, how come max connections and other settings are not as recommended?. Just set it again. As for the speed, each torrent is different so the speeds are different. I don't see at the moment any other problem besides the settings. Maybe Switeck, or someone else, can find something.

mcaspi Posted October 19, 2010 Report Posted October 19, 2010 You can try this test if you want. Install the version one above the one which had the good speed, using the same good torrent. Then continue with higher versions, without changing the settings, until the speed drops. This version "is" when the "bug" started. When we know the version, we can try to find which change caused the speed drop.
dodirtboss3 Posted October 20, 2010 Report Posted October 20, 2010 i've fixed the problem for me i'm now runing windows 7,32bit and for some reason u torrent would not download above 45kb i tryed just about everything but nothing worked untill i tryed this in setup guideautomatic port mapping enable or try to random the portnot sure what the problem was cuz it was showing i had a good port but i hope this helpsi think the ports causes the speed limit the antivirus/ firewall closes too many norton internet security test used to show huge list of closed ports and depending on how many u had closed the browser would stop working or slow down some thing to look into i guess
