Filling page file, but not using much memory

I am using version 1.8.5 on Windows XP and i'm trying to change the settings so that it uses more memory and reads and write to the hard drive less. I have 2GB of ram and about 1.5 of it is free.

In the advanced settings there is "disk cache". I want to allow it to use 500MB of memory. Here are my current settings.

After changing this, I did notice that files are not written to the HDD as often which is good.

What I don't understand is why my page file is filling up. uTorrent is currently using over 400MB of my page file and only about 30MB or memory. It is using the page file to store information that I am uploading. If I check the box that says "Remove old blocks from the cache", it will empty the page file usage down to about 30MB.

Am I doing something wrong? I want to use as much RAM as possible and cut down on reads and writes to the HDD.

I believe the latest uTorrent versions (v2.0.4 and/or v2.2) has minor changes to reduce/avoid windows double-caching files in memory, which as you see EATS free ram far faster than it should.

No, you got it backwards, uTorrent is not using enough ram. I have 1.5GB of unused ram and uTorrent is only using about 30MB.

For some reason it is filling up the "page file" section of my hard drive with content that I am uploading. This doesn't make sence b/c it still has to read it from the HDD and it is just as slow. And doing that puts the file in 2 places on my hard drive at the same time. Plus it puts more strain on the HDD b/c it has to jump back and forth from the page file to the location of the original file when it needs a different piece. It should put that content onto the ram so that it doesn't have to wear out my HDD.

As for downloading, I don't think there is any way to make less writes to the HDD than I am now. It writes every 20 seconds. I wouldn't mind this being a bit longer, but I don't have a problem with it how it is.

Also, can anyone explain what "hashing" means under disk statistics/ read statistics? It says #: 45, Ammount: 56.2 MB, Avg Size: 1.25 MB.

And am I understanding this correctly? diskio.smart_hash: This option makes µTorrent hash data from memory (if in the write queue) instead of flushing to disk, re-reading from disk, and then hashing. This should help reduce hard disk reads, especially when transferring at high speeds.

Does that mean if something I just downloaded is still sitting in my ram waiting to be coppied to the HDD and someone want's to download that piece, it will read it from the ram rather than from the HDD?

I think I may have just answered my first question. Does it mean I uploaded 45 pieces from files on the ram because diskio.smart.hash is enabled?
