2.2 22626 major memory leak

Installed this build the other day, and its got a major memory leak.

Running Windows 7 64bit with 4gb ram. Launch uTorrent 2.2 build 22626 with one torrent transferring. Memory usage starting at 1.5gb total. Over time (a few hours) usage eventually climbs all the way up to 4gb and my system starts swapping to the hard drive.

The memory is not showing allocated by uTorrent via task manager, but I have confirmed multiple times now that if I shut down the application, about 30 seconds later the memory drops back down to my original starting position.

Then it's most likely the windows disk cache being stupid AGAIN, which is NOT a memory leak in uTorrent.

Where does the problem lie, and why when I close uTorrent does it clean up? Sure does point towards uTorrent, especially considering it wasn't happening until I installed the beta.

Everything has a check box except for :

Override automatic cache size and specify the size manually, and

Increase automatic cache size when cache thrashing.

Fact : Memory usage climbs nonstop, I shut down uTorrent, and it clears it.

Your making it hard for people to submit bug reports.

And when the ram consumption isn't in the utorrent.exe process, it's not uTorrent with the memory leak.

Actually noticed the same thing, updated to the latest version of utorrent on two different Window 7 machines (one is my seedbox the other is my laptop) both with 4 GB of ram, after several hours the computers become unresponsive and thrash the hard drive. Shutting down uTorrent resolves the issue. Switched back to an earlier version of utorrent and the problem resolved itself

Well, do you also have AnyDVD (in any flavor) installed? That was a possible reason for the original poster's problem. It'd be nice to have confirmation if incompatibilities with that program are the cause.

I fixed my problem by overriding the cache size, and forcing it to 32mb. ( A uTorrent setting )

The people chiming in and blaming it on other applications, and then the OS of all things, is just plain stupid. Its a bug in uTorrent, period. It was not there in previous versions, while I had all the same applications running. It showed up in 2.2 beta.

The common answer is that it's Windows problem, and not uTorrent So I guess overriding it (like I also mention in my tips) is the proposed so called "solution"...

A regression was found in the Windows cache override code that will be fixed in the next version. Effectively, the bug prevented µTorrent from disabling the Windows cache, which is probably the source of this behavior.

And there's nothing wrong with reporting a bug in the Found Bugs forum.
