fedorjj Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 No matter what I do, uTorrent won't open .torren files. Every time I start uTorrent it asks about default torrent client. I tried to use Open with... dialog, but when I select utorrent.exe nothing happens, it just won't appear in application select window.I tried different capability modes, I tried to reinstall it, I deleted AppData\Roaming\uTorrent folder. It gives nothing. It's very annoying. Please help. P.S. It runs with administrator privileges.
Firon Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 So, you're not really supposed to run it as admin. Weird things happen.

Firon Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 Run it non-admin mode, associate it with .torrent files again and try it one more time? You can force association in the preferences.

(make a search about "torrent" in the registry). If yes, try to remove it and redo the file association.

I don't have any .torrent entry in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.
moogly Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 Are you able to associate the .torrent file with another BT client (test with Deluge, Transmisison etc) or progam (like Notepad)?

moogly Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 Which version of uTorrent are you running?
CirUmeUela Posted October 28, 2010 Report Posted October 28, 2010 Hey fedorjj, I was having this same problem forever and it was really driving me crazy. But I found a solution. The torrent still wont associate itself with uTorrent when I download it, but it downloads fine when I add the torrent manually from uTorrent itself by going to File > Add Torrent. I know it's a bit annoying but it works, and you can add multiple torrents this way by highlighting all of them and clicking Add. I hope this helps, it works for me.
moogly Posted October 29, 2010 Report Posted October 29, 2010 Or try one of these programs to fix the file association:http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/06/20/windows-vista-file-associations-advanced-editing-management-tools/Maybe that can help.
fedorjj Posted October 29, 2010 Author Report Posted October 29, 2010 Which version of uTorrent are you running?Latest, 2.0.4 build 22450. I tried downgrading to some old versions, it didn't help.Hey fedorjj, I was having this same problem forever and it was really driving me crazy. But I found a solution.
